sit in the seat and push your knees up to push the bottom of the wheel out and rock the top and pull. works every time for me.

ive broken 2 of them trying to remove mine lol
some of them are real pains to get off, id say if you cant remove it with a puller, just get a second hand colum :thumb:

most of the ones iv tried have come off by hitting each side of the wheel until it pops off, often using a lot of anger.
the one on my black nova though took ages. we kept on banging it for ages. we finally gave up. and then the next day i just sat inside the car and held the wheel and it popped off lol
keep trying, it WILL come off.

keep the nut on lightly though! Give good beating side to side and tug it about and it'll come eventually........oh and the same for the steering wheel  i'll get my bags
i took mine to vauxhall and they couldnt get it of.
so the guy said to take the coloum out, which is what i did, suppose its not the answer for you as you want to change the wheel lol

I had problems taking my MK1 steering wheel off but I got my cuz's dad to come round he had a go. Just sat in the seat tugged, pulled, yanked and rocked the wheel and it came off.
I think I was being a bit too careful as not to damage anything and he had more of the brute power approach. But it worked.

They are a rite bitch to get off hey ! i find that many time the answer is to screw the bolt back on hand tight and give it a good few wacks with a hammer, helps to shock it off, be carefull pulling and hitting the wheel it's self too much as you will nacker the column and steering lock (they are really weak on the nova) those puller things are a waste of time imo !
tyre iron through the tgop and bottom, side to side and hammer from behind. The other option is rope around the wheel - out the hatch and some mates "gently" yanking it.
make sure nuts on though a little or its fly out anbd with smash you face in or damage the car
lol
if you get too brutal, you will damage the column.. there is a deformable safety piece that will cause the wheel to push into the dash if you hit it wrong. if the puller & the tugging has failed, then there is one option that should work...
wrap towels round the wheel & column. slacken the big nut, but leave it on by a couple of threads.. pour some boiling hot water from a kettle on the boss.. this causes the aluminium boss to expand quicker than the steel column. then it should pull off

i had the same problem just undone the nut holding it on but was still on by a couple of threads then it was a case of feet on the floor backside up off the seat and pull as hard as you can with one hand at the top of the wheel and one at the bottom pulling in a rocking motion lol

il go for attempt 3 today!, l0ol
If a steering wheel puller isn't working, something is amiss.
On even the most b'stardly of wheels I've come across, a puller has always popped them off in seconds with minimal fuss. I only use the bashing and pulling and kicking and screaming and huffing and puffing and stropping and bleating because I can't be arsed to walk to the garage to get my puller lol
Well i.ve been tryin to get mine off the past couple days and still no luck. I.ve snapped the top of the wheel off and the bottom bit also. Most of the plastic **** has come off the middle also.
I turn the wheel now and it clicks so i'm guessing i.ve ****ed the steering lock up so 2nd hand rack here i come.

/\ exactly as i said would happen if you get too brutal, you'll also probably find that if you put the steering lock on and shake the wheel from side to side that the steering lock disengages which means that too is nackerd, meaning that you'll either be now having two keys or swapping the locks over :(

if you cant get your hands on a puller, use a punch (anything not to big to damage the thread) give the centre of column couple of light taps with your hammer and let the pre load sping do the work,it should just pop off lol

At the end of the colum where the nut goes on is a countersunk hole, place cold chisel in countersunk hole, shock with hammer (not stupidly hard) works every time no matter how hard the wheel is stuck on the colum :thumb:
one just like this
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Footprint-582-Concrete-Point-Chisel_W0QQitemZ300290937757QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_ Hand_Tools_Equipment?hash=item300290937757&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1683%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318
a fail safe way is put the nut on 1 turn
put have inch extension bar agaist nut three taps with lump hammer the wheel will be off
but your colum will fooked
im just buying a second hand coloum now hopefully
