at last i pulled my finger out and have actually started a thread on the car, its taken me 3 hours to sift through photos and i still aint finished.
most of you have either seen the car at previous shows or know it through photos or cruises. H101USA started life as a 1.0 Merit with a wide arch kit and the trademark borbet A wheels, at the time i had a Nova GSi XE and my good friend craig (eurosbd) had this car. from the first time i saw the shell i could see the potential...

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii190/sri147glen/h101usa2.jpg
I actually swapped the shell for my XE nova having had fun in the car it was time to start a new project and with the wide arch shell it was a good start so obviously i knew after having redtop power i had to do a similar thing maybe more....

the car then went upto Lee Mitchell at LM Styling and lucky for me hes just around the corner. originally it was going to be a 2 grand project no respray and just an engine swap but what started as that is now a fully redone show car...

once the car was up LM styling the car was stripped inside...first i wanted to re-carpet the whole car and re-cover the van floor in the back... the reason for this in the back as well as the look was to help with the weight and lower the rear some more... heres some pictures of the original bay in primer...

after this the car was put onto my drive to be stripped down completely and i mean completely.
previously the cars owners had painted first white hammerite inside, then black hammerite so out come the DA sander and some 80 grit and started to make a dent on the massive job of smoothing the entire inside, outside and bay of the car. not only that but the more cleaner and smoother i wanted it the more dents, high spots, brackets, bolt holes etc started to show there face.
inside all of the rear seat posts, bracketry and hangers have been removed, all dents filled and smoothed and the roof had been de-glued and smoothed to get a final mirror finish both inside and out when painted...
pictures to follow...

my close friend brian work his absolute **** off skimming all of the arches to get the final finish. my intentions were to make the fibreglass panels look metallike and he has done an amazine job.
Luckily i am an expert on car finishing materials because of working for Loctite/Teroson/Plastic padding as an engineer so the correct material was chosen and finished before paint in 800 grit!!!!

03-02-09, 09:47 PM
Do I see expanding foam filler in the rear arches? What's that there for? Is there no inner arches or something?
finished before paint in 800 grit!!!!
What?
Love these wheels!
EUROTURBO
03-02-09, 09:58 PM
the expanding foam is a mystery to be honest but the only thing i can think of is its for the vibrations and hasnt done any harm so far so im not going to change it lol.
and as for the 800 grit...knew some one would say something lol...wanted to finish in the highest grade i could before primer for the smoothest finish to dry flat back...
Primer will fill any sanding marks..
Primer should allways be finished by hand with 800wet*.
*anless a good finish isnt really needed.
EUROTURBO

dont mean to be nasty but the primer that we put on the car was chosen by a technical advisor at ICI paints and he recomended doing it dry for a sharper finish...!!!

Quick question, why use that type of under seal/stone gard on the body/bay seams? just looks a bit messy mate.
Also have you thought about using a Cav,or someother car's petrol cover "flap" so the hole is not seen??

Have the standard arches been cut out of the rear.
Whats the hole in the n/s inner arch part of the bay for?
So this was the blue one? Do you own the black one too?
Ah, thats what i thought before, so are these old pics? Or was it black and your re, repainting?

Good spot on the hole in the n/s inner arch too. I'm guessing its for boost pipes.
why did vauxhall never make a car like this for old school group B rallying? Awesome power and mega wide. cool as f**k! love it!
EUROTURBO
04-02-09, 11:39 PM
yea the hole in the arch is for the boost pipe and if you look closely theres the holes on the front panel at both ends where the pipework evenly comes out for a symetrcal look. bumper on or off....
The amount of time you spent masking all the bits up you could've removed them !
Always thought the car was pretty cool, finish / fitting of the arches was spot on, suited not having the skirts on either, be a beast with an LET in.
Needs an F28, equal length shafts and the GTE bonnet vents fitting the right way up tho (IMO).
Mike B GTE
05-02-09, 08:14 AM
is this getting a full interior back in yeah? like carpets and all?
looks awesome! always liked it, even when it was blue! not keen on the vents at all though, the way they sit on top of the bonnet and how theyre upside down. - understand why youve fitted them that way but a NACA duct would have been better for that purpose
awesome project none the less mate

lol, that is seam sealer, i work for teroson and have the added advantage of having the best sealer to hand all the time, the product is called 9320 4in1 spray sealer and gives a textured finish...(as used on VW from factory) looks good in real life...

Love the car, paintwork looks superb.
My only gripe would be the smooth boot/rear lights, and the huge gap between your grill and bumper.
Other than that it's definatly the best looking wide arch Nova i've ever seen.
EUROTURBO
26-03-09, 10:31 PM
the pain in my life is that gap lol
the intercooler mounts are such that it pulls the bumper down a bit to be central in the bumper without hitting the point on the front panel, may take it off and do it again but at the moment its been off the road for just over 2 years and i havnt even driven it yet so think i might poodle it around this year then do some crazy stuff next year.....
yea i noticed the wonk too, sorted that out now....

still a truly stunning car ,
paint work is immaculate :thumb:
beautiful mate :thumb:
like the png sticker on the strut brace
Well worth the wait on the pics, its looks stunning! one of the best novas of 09 so far and it will take a lot to beat it. Bodywork looks flawless, although i also think that the smooth boot/ numberplate up high lets the back down.

do they funk!!! there is no cooler rear light for a nova than a set off euro clusters with double fog's imo!!

I don't hate the smooth boot or lights, I just prefer normal boots.
If it was me, I wouldnt worry much about the rear, but i'd definatly get that bumper to grill gap closed before it's featured. All the fantastic paintwork, awesome engine, awesome wheels etc will be let down by that gap.
