Also worth looking at Helix clutches. I've just fitted a solid 4 paddle cerametallic clutch in mine but not driven it much yet.

crap for all applications or ok on the lesser non-turbo applications? 2.0 i, 1.6i etc..?

The reason I ask is that i've got the box out of mine at the moment and it has a techniclutch 4 paddle fitted which looks to be fairly new. I've heard that they have a had a few bad reports  I plan to use the car for 1/4mile runs and track days and would rather replace the clutch now (whilst the box is out) if it's not going to be up to the job

Where's the best place to buy a helix  :D

techniclutch are the eBay jobbies, it's a effectively a rebuilt old clutch and poor quality throughout there whole range. So I've heard, I don't have first hand experience but google them and see what others have said. I have seen a 3k old techniclutch lol.

Me and my mates with decent spec motors are all using helix without any problems. Not sure where I got mine from. You can buy from helix direct.

As with all things you get what you pay for, and if you're going to be giving it yee-ha down the strip then the clutch is going to take a hammering, so worth paying for a decent one now in my opinion. As I say I did and it's given me no problems what so ever.

Hope that helps a but mate.

I tried buying from Helix direct and they wouldn't let me.
These people are the main UK dealers. (http://www.mardigras.co.uk/) Really nice and easy people to deal with.

as said techniclutch are ****e, just a painted pressure plate!

if doing 1/4s mile etc use the helix 4paddle, theres a million times better than those ones.

im using a 4paddle in my xe, and i think it worked out slightly cheaper getting the clutch kit from demon tweeks than mardigras + i get abit of dicscount;)

Speak to Mardi Gras Motorsport for Helix stuff, by far the best clutch out there IMO.

Their based at Silverstone

What would you advise, 4 or 6 paddle - for my spec

4 paddle will be fine.

TBH a paddle isn't needed, but that is simply upto you, I've used both and the paddle is far harsher and obviously won't last anywhere near as long, being that its a nova turbo though its unlikely you'll be doing 100k in it though

The main issue is the pressure plate, the highest torque rating plate they do only suits a pot flywheel

I think my helix 4 paddle clutch plate was IIRC £165, well worth it, not as harsh as some say, i found it easy to get use to,and i think there awsome!

And mardi-gras was where i bought mine from too.

i paid £370 for full kit, pressure plate, clutch plate and release bearing!

Hope the OP doesn't mind...

I've been having clutch probs since fitting my SCCR box, I can't launch in first without major clutch slip. I have a standard cover and helix plate. Will a helix cover solve this, or am I likely to need to upgrade to a paddle type affair?

Oli. the issue will be the cover. did you skim the flywheel before fitting the paddle ?

£370 is the Mardi Gras Kit price

It's not a paddle clutch just standard style one, the flywheel was skimmed yes.

I don't think there is much in the actual friction plates tbh, its the stronger pressure plate that makes the biggest difference in strength.

Probably best you get yourself one, 180 ish +vat iirc

I'll put it on the wish list from the easter bunny ;)
