Box on Mk1 under dash shelf

What does the box on the shelf under the dash on the drivers side of a mk1 do? and is it needed? lol Got a Mk2 dash in and its just dangling about so want rid of it if i can ;)

Its for the headlamps iirc something to do with dipped light on the ignition I wouldn't advise removing it

mines removed, dint make a blind bit of difference lol

its the dim-dip relay... a fantastic piece of european legistation to do with scandanavia & dark days. the idea is that the dip beam works dimly when the sidelights are on.. it usually fails & if removed the sidelights just work normally
