View Full Version : Sat Nav?
I'm after a cheap new sat nav, under a hundred quid. What have people got, how do they perform, and links to said products.
What, in peoples opinions is the best budget sat nav? Ta all!:thumb:

Tomtom One is just under £100 in halfords. Can't go wrong!:thumb:
ebay for it then search out reviews etc, got a navman n60i widescreen jobbie for 60 quid about 6 months ago, long as you're not set on a definite make theres plenty of choice for bargains

Nope not stuck on definate make.
I figured it's be easier to ask peoples opnions on them, from people who actually use them everyday.

TomTom one is probably the best for £100. when i was using it, it was faultless, smooth, updated well and warned about speed cameras very quickly. it did, for some reason, give me the voice of borat and when i reached my destination he wanted to 'high five' me. lol very good nav though

tomtom's need a bit of maintanance (regular software updates and charging up) with its software and 2 hr battery life.
Garmin's are more robust, reliable softwareand 4 hr battery..
Tomtom One V3 Classic (2007 model) £80ish or One V4 UK (2008 model) £99ish.
Garmin nuvi 200 (2007 model) £80ish or nuvi 205 for current model. £99ish.
Ive got a TomTom One v4, cost £96 from halfords iirc.
No real complaints, works well.
Did have a bit of a mess up when i was using it the other week, when your location arrow on the map just started randomly turning, and then it would keep re-calculating the route(even though i hadnt changed direction/road)
Switched it off and back on and that sorted it. Didnt happen again.
So all is good :)
Thanks dave/ad, went into halfords for a butchers today, bloke who worked there didn't have a clue about any of the sat navs on display, he couldn't even tell me if the tom tom came with a mount!
Been looking at the garmins, they look real easy to use.
Mine came with mount/car charger/usb cable/program cd

I've got a Tomtom 1 XL Europe. Battery life isnt too good but thats because I tend to leave it plugged in in the car when I'm using it. Came with a windscreen mount and incar charging cable. Its never failed me and I'm going to try the http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/ speed camera database on it alongside the tomtom one soon. You can get it for £105 (http://www.totalpda.co.uk/TomTom/TomTom-ONE-XL.6677.html)

I've only ever used one Garmin one, I think it was the entry level one but I found it slow, the screen hard to read and the unit hard to use.
That pocketGPS world database looks good, might download that onto mine if its free.

bit pants to hear the odd halford staff helping us 'do a woolies'..
if ya need owt john use store locator on halfords.com, get the number - ring stafford store ask for me.
I say tomtom for good nav and features, or garmin for trusty plain ol' sat nav n thats it.
I have used satnavs, but atm ive been using my phone, loaded with Tomtom software (Its a HTC phone running windows software) and a external Bluetooth GPS sensor. Its fine for me as it means i just leave the GPS sensor in the car.
Ive got to say though, i would recommend it, proper sat navs do have a few more features, faster and do seem to be worth the money.
PS: Preety pointless post on my count lol

Thanks For your help here guys, i've ordered a garmin unit, going to pick it up in abit.......
bit pants to hear the odd halford staff helping us 'do a woolies'..
have you ever tried to go into another halfords store as a customer???????
they don't have much of a clue in most of them........
even in the local one to me i get addressed as 'mate' when I do not know them & the moment I open a parts list up, they come round asking if I need advice.... then can't give it.
when I was a parts man, from 1989-1995, I made it my business to get to know the product, whatever it was, and any tips needed to fit the products & also any other things I could advise people to purchase, thus making the store money..........
Tom Toms are sh1t. Always getting it wrong. Garmin FTW.
lol Just seen you're buying a Garmin, I only read page one. Wise choice mate!
I've got a TomTom One Europ 22 as I needed the Euro maps. Its good, does what it needs to do and is pretty quick to calculate new routes and pick up satellites.
My colleague at work had a garmin and it kept coming up with "updating firmware" every 30 seconds lol
I also have Garmin XT on my phone, and thats pretty poo tbh. Tends to take odd routes and can't handle roundabouts lol
