View Full Version : E16SE head - Which blocks would fit?
I have a mint E16SE head but I melted a piston in the block at Cadwell Park last sunday. :( I need to stay with a 1600 and I've heard that many of the vauxhall engine blocks are interchangeable - and I was hoping to get one with a crank sensor so I can run it with a good management system (unless anyone knows a good hall effect management system...). After checking some books it seems that I will need either a C16SE, or an X16SZ block to fit it to an E16SE head and have a crank sensor. Has anyone on here done this before? Or does anyone know a good engine management system with trigger in the distributor for hall effect? (which would allow me to replace mine with another E16SE) :)

Most systems can run hall-effect if you fit a pull-up resistor. if distributor pick up is not an option then run it as an 8 cylinder crank pick up. that way the ECU is expection to see 8 clicks per rev of the crank. Then you just need to run wasted spark on the unused outputs.
but better to get one that does the job
If you searched you would know that the C blocks can be fitted to the E heads.
x blocks can aswell afaik. apart from the x18xe1... on a side note, the new corsa d vxr z16let turbo assy, will fit the x14/x16xe engines....

Im racing the car in a Stock Hatch series, and the rules say that you can't add sensors. However, the Nova GTE and GSI aren't recognised as serperate entities in the rules so if I could get a C block then I would be within the rules :)
as for the x16sz block, if its essentially the same as the c16se block (which was one of my originl questions) then it wont be a problem.
The reason I wanted a crank sensor is that my local race garage (who will do me a deal) work with Dastek unichip, MBE, Emerald and Motec (maybe more). I have a unichip but its the wrong one (its a red one [B-type], and I believe 1.6 novas need either the bue one [a type]... or very early ones with different voltage need a special one-off chip that Dastek still have in stock but won't come cheap), and MBE and DTA (the only ones who've emailed me back so far) say they only produce systems that work with a crank sensor...
So the predicament is as follows: I need to have a block that carries a crank sensor as stock, but was fitted to a 1600 Nova as standard at any point, or same engine that was used in another model. Difficult, eh? :p

Sorry, I felt my enquiry would end up being more complex than what I found when I did search so I felt it necessary to start a new thread. Apologies if there is a similar thread but I have a few questions to ask and I thought I'd kick it off as such :thumb:
