View Full Version : Wheel repair

Just noticed today that one of my 18" Kazeras has a dent in the rim - most likely caused when I hit a huge pothole in the road on monday morning en route to work

No steering wobble or vibration (hence how I only just noticed), tyre still holds air fine. Its just the outer lip of the rim that appears to be damaged (probably due to being soft aluminium), the wheel itself still looks perfectly in shape.

Question is, can the bent lip be repaired by a wheel repair place? Or will it be a case of new wheel? Which will have to come from the states, as there's no UK supplier...

Next question, where do i stand with regards to complaining to the council? I had a look along the road again today and couldn't see the hole, BUT there was a few patches of fresh tarmac so its possible that between monday and now it got patched up. I'm guessing as there's no hole in the road any more they can deny it was their fault?

I'm refusing to use the car until its given the all clear or repaired by a specialist, as for all I know it could be damaging the 4wd system, or run the risk of an epic tyre fail at high speed. Luckily I have the Nova to take me to work tomorrow, but thats not the point...

you cc an forwards a complaint to the local council and they may pay for the repair of the alloy wheel, but there are places that can easily refurb the wheel, there are mobile people that will come out in a van for £50 or somthing iket ath, or get a repair kit of the internet thats what i did to mine worked a treat! brought them back to new, till i kerbed one :(

Time for a change of rim IMO dude. Get something that suits her!

As far as repairing goes though, try hitting it with a hammer/block of wood if it's just the outer rim.

One of the best places for refurbishing wheels up this way is SEM. Not sure if they do a courier service but if they did you can't go wrong there - if it's a fixable issue.

Just had a look on tirerack and they don't list the KZ-A in Celica fitment any more... so it looks like its going to be new wheels if its beyond repair :(

TE37s or OZ/TD multispokes methinks :D

Would be nice to know for my personal use this info would, had a wheel in at work the other day and it had a dent in and the tyre wouldn't seal, i got a copper hammer to it and still no luck.

Diy not really, but a wheel refuber would be able to do it. Or a good body shop. Might need to be gently heated and taped back in to place.

Benn, can you just heat the alloy up then, then hit back into place. Never thought of that one! ?

Firstly i'd be complaining to the council. Worht a shot. Take some pics of said pothole and damaged rim. Then, IMO, i would replace the wheel. Just for peace of mind more than anythong else. I know they came from the states, but if its bent...

Wouldnt fancy it throwing a tyre at speed.

Try Rispeed Jack lol Sorry but the centres really spoil that rim. Bling bling :(

I fixed some MO's with a mate that were square by heating them up and knocking seven shaded of sh1t out of them with a copper hammer, not the best but it worked and they balanced up OK. Wouldn't catch me running them though lol

Just noticed you have seen sense lol. Can't go wrong with TE37's.

Exactly, the way the rim is damaged the bead is exposed.

I've drafted a letter to the council but the road has since been repaired. I've done my homework and read up on the laws and ways they may try to get out of it and come up with a valid argument so we'll see.

Limp, shut it, the alu centre breaks the rim up nicely :p the wheel isn't available in the UK and the handful of US stockists don't list it in Celica fitment any more :(

Been to see a local old boy metal worker who reckons it should be fixable as the damage is between the spokes.

Pics of damage... excuse the state of the wheels, I've not cleaned them up for ages lol

No, the tyre isn't flat, thats how they sit. Believe it or not, thats 34psi. Crappy Kumhos with their cheese sidewalls lol My brakes look tiny too, thats 315mm discs there. LOL

God awful rusty brake guard lol but this shot shows the main part of the wheel is still round with no distortion, its just the rim edge thats hit

Nothing a rubber mallet and some serious slappage cant sort :)

Dont be spending money on the black heap anyway, you have epic waddage to be spunked on the booted loon of death, soon to be removed of its cornering ability lol
