i have just finished rebuilding my c20xe,pistons,rings,mains,bigends,oil pump all seals and gaskets etc.

not been a good week.

all wired up and plugged in etc.

cant get spark!!!!! it was running fine before.

its a dispack (later type) engine.
im getting 12volts from the plug for the coilpack that the HTleads come from, and 2 lots of 12volts form the plug for the amplifier.
is this right???
what could the problem be?
how can i test things?

And the new oil seal on the end of the crank for the oil pump is leaking badly.

please help iv been baffled for days.

well if none of the wires are borken then go over the wiring, make sure everything is pluged in that there isnt a random plug lying around, then check the ecu u have make sure thats correct. try looking at the earths you have aswell.

PM me with questions if you like

forgot to say... Have you flashed off the fault codes?

*Dave*

o forgot to mention the ecu light isnt coming on with the ignition or at all.

and how can i diagnose the fault codes?

the engine is in gsi.

check the ecu is properly earthed, they dont need to be but if there is a power surge it will blow and it might of blown. just go around checking all sensors and fuel relay! flashing the codes out go on this www.topbuzz.co.uk then click info tech section half way down then scroll down to reading fault codes there is two links one explains them one tells you about them

the oil seal behind the bottom cambelt sprocket that goes around the crank and into the oil pump keeps leaking , iv replaced it twice and keeps on leaking.

could it be leaking because i havnt done the big bolt in the middle up tight enough?

as i read in haynes manual that im to do it 135nm's then 45degrees.

na i used the switched live from the fan, but it isnt live when you crank it over. lol
silly mistake.

oil leak is all thats stopping me now from driving it.

by the sound of it the seals getting snagged when fitted, thus nicking it. is the crank smooth where the seal fits?

i cant see what is wrong with the seal. do i just do the big bolt up tight?

there is a big spacer that sits inside the seal on the crank. from what i can see this is compressed against the sprocket anf the oil pump. would it seal the problem?

have ya got the thrust washer between the crank pulley and the oil pump?

*Dave*
02-02-09, 08:38 PM
yes.

its a common thing for the front crank seal to get cut when being fitted. the keyway can rip it. I always put a bit of electrical tape on the end of a shaft & then give it a little oil to ease the seal over. once it is cleaned up, then it usually works fine

just found the problem, the tempary rocker cover i was using is what is leaking, in between the cam pulleys and dripping all the way down onto the bottom pulley. silly me never noticed it untill today.

the worst thing of all is that the rocker cover wont come off!!!!

all bolts out obviously all breathers disconected, still wont move.

pic below of how badly its stuck.

its lifting the front of the car off the axle stands!!!

http://i272.photobucket.com/albums/jj183/davenova/Image045.jpg

any idea how i can make it budge.????

its cracked now from the stress, dont want to smash it off as the broken bits will fall into my engine.

even the bolts in where the plugs go

*Dave*
03-02-09, 06:37 PM
even the bolts in where the plugs go

all of about 20 allen head bolts are out including the 1 near the clip for the HT leads under the plug cover on the far right.

Give It A Pull With The Rope And A Tap With A Hammer All The Way Round At The Same Time . Double Check All The Bolts Are Out As Well

Benn

A tap with a hammer, if needed a flat wide screw driver to brake the seal.

/\ what he said. Rubber gasket has probably heated and stuck to the head. I would check all the bolts are out, just to be 110% sure.

i put it just to stop any crap gettin in the engine while i put it in the car, was only held on by 4 bolts, taken them out and its STUCK!

*Dave*
04-02-09, 11:49 AM
this is really annoying me now!!

any 1 think of an idea to get it off without causing damage to rest of the engine.???

16v Nova Kev

it would need a hammer and a big flat screwdriver and tapity tap you go

if ya can kill the cover, bray theliving sh!t out of it matey

Seems odd its stuck. It has to be the sealant so run around the edge with a sharp bladed knife & cut the seal.

It's not jammed under the dispac mount is it?
