external xe fuel pump issue

hi guys ive just put a xe into my cavalier, now the 1.8 internal pump isnt working how it should so im putting the external pump off the donor on, now can i just connect the blue/red fuel pump wire to the postive side and earth the negative out and connect the fuel pump just before the fuel rail on the bulkhea as such?

now . . .

1. will it suck up enough fuel as the fuel comes up through the other internal pump?

2. will i need to get the other pump working to feed the fuel to the external pump? as people have told me i will?

From reading on here, you will be better off by-passing the old pump (Get another bit of pipe.
