Well I started off working on the nova, the winter has been harsh and it need a few bits re-painting, so popped out to get some more primer and...

Well the pictures some it all up really, i'm gutted. It probably looks worse than it is but i'm trying to save up for college this year to learn vehicle body repairs (funny that!) so even though it is still repairable i've got no way of fixing it for months.

damn.. what did you hit?

@jay: snowplough is just the lower part ;) as far as i can see only the mk1 bumper is cracked

Steve
27-01-09, 05:14 PM
The snowploughs fine, just the bumper thats fooked! thats the one thing i'm most happy with! I was behind a 4x4, can't remember which one, but the car in front of her slowed up all of a sudden so just hit the brakes and went into the back of her, or more like under her bumper.

It wasn't really either of out faults so don't think its going through the insurance. The car which slowed up disappeared anyway so we can't even point the finger!

The breather on the head has cracked, the inner wings are slightly creased but not too bad, the slam panel is nearly touching the head but the crossmember and chassis legs appear ok! And the radiator is pretty squashed, haven't tried starting it but the wheels haven't gone back and it rolled off the recovery truck fine. Lucky it was a 4x4 and quite high off the ground so the damage wasnt as bad as it could have been. Can't afford to repair it so gonna have to get a cheap runabout for now and try and fix her up when I start at college.

Quite lucky as the car behind me managed to swerve and avoid hitting me.

Didn't get the numberplate? Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offence.

Steve
27-01-09, 05:47 PM
Nope, had bad whiplash so didnt want to go chasing down the road after some car! lol Not actually sure what happened with them as I couldn't see past the 4x4.

Gutted

Cheers mate, ideally I need a new slam panel/front panel and someone thats handy with a welder, oh and another bonnet and probably two new wings. Funny thing is theres another nova in the exact same colour as mine a few miles down the road, ideal donor car! lol lol

Paul

Didn't get the numberplate? Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offence.

youve actually got to be involved in accident to be reported/prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident.

Just cause a car brakes doesn't make them involved.

Personally I'd reshell it, never be the same :(

Gutted for you

steve iam a sad for you

please dont get dis heartened. it isnt as bad as it first looks. the impact was fairly high so the chassis legs havent taken the brunt of the impact. start by stripping out all the broken bits, then cut out the slam panel and take it from there, its really not that bad.

but iam sorry to see the sadness that we have all seen based on the sad pictures on page one. if you need any support through this tough time then please find it. or speak to meritlover about your pain.

that's why you should hang back from vans and 4x4's to give your self move vision

shame about the car mate

edit..

and also i'm not trying to argue but I'm pretty sure you would be to blame as you and the 4x4 must have been to close to each other ( as the old bill would look at it ) as that's why you are taught braking distances after all

Lee
27-01-09, 09:13 PM
Are you on some sort of mission to rid the world of yellow Nova's? Gutted pal, hope its rescuable!

ade
27-01-09, 11:09 PM
as above - tbh - beaver auto's (freee delivery on parts for png club members!) will sort that lot out.

Also - to fix the plastic on the grill you can get an ABS based glue off ebay that will melt the sections together and return it like new - used it on the SR's clips that got snapped off and theyre as new.

Steve
27-01-09, 11:22 PM
Cheers peeps, yes im not having alot of luck with yellow novas but this time I wasnt driving it like a tool, I was just trying to go and get an estimate for some paint work! lol And as its an a-road thats always busy I was surprised at how quick the cars in front of my stopped.

I think alex has got a bonnet and possibly a front panel, it needed a new bonnet and wings anyway as they were dented. Trying to find a cheapo runabout for now, the novas probably gonna be off the road for some time. But hopefully by the time it is ready for the roads again it wont be full of dents as it is now, and I was looking into a full respray anyway.

I was waiting for the usual 'if you break it how for xxx part comments' i'm dissappointed that there haven't been more lol

In some ways I do feel like stripping it as it would fetch a fair bit but its been so reliable and I know that I'd only get another one before long.

Plug
27-01-09, 11:35 PM
i would repair it mate, as you say if you break you will only get another and then you would have wished you had kept everything and reshelled it Tbh.

Keep and repair :thumb:

Really not sure what to do, was going to check it over today but the weather has put me off, I would like to get it repaired but after a few people have pointed out, it will probably need new inner wings as well, if I can find someone that could do it a bit cheaper than what a bodyshop would charge then I will fix it.

But also the breather on the head is wrecked so the head will need replacing and most likely bits of that have gone into the engine, another job. Tbh I'm just losing enthusiasm for it now.
