Had that sound from a 306 engine before and I think we fixed it by changing the belt rollers.

I would say its the rollers too, Have you changed the belt etc latly?

Is the tension set right? Should have a pointer pointing to a mark on the tensioner backplate.

If its spot on then yeah it sounds like the rollers are worn. Change them ASAP, if one lets go its bye bye valves......

Wip the belt off and give the rollers a spin/pull to see if they feel worn. But usually just the bearing in them dries out, gets noisy, and eventually collapses......

well the engine has been standing for over a year lol

The rollers are probably shagged then.
The bearings dry out and start whining.

Ive got my old rollers somewhere, obviously theyve been used, can have them though if you want them lol

Sounds like rollers or the belts just too tight. Should be channing the cambelt anyway on a new engine :P

Sure its not rubbing anywhere?

Mine used to do that - it was the belt cover back plate catching on the bottom pulley. Can you bend/flex it while it's running and see if the noise changes? Don't lose a finger!!

If it's the belt catching somewhere it'll shred eventually so check it out thoroughly.

yes that is a good point, the back cover (the one behind the cam pulleys are rubbish and bend forward touching the pulley and/or belt.

not gonna know until the belt rollers are changed theres nothing else it can be. Bend the cover back make sure its clear when you fit the new belt

are you sure the belt isnt over tightened?
have you spun the water pump with the belt off?
its the above or idle pulleys

Water pumps dont usualy make that sort of noise (but the video could make it sound funny)
