at milton keynes meet the other day. asked chris ward, former owenr of my car when he thought MOT was, he couldnt remember although we came to conclusion it was in the new year

forgot all about it

yesterday for some freaky reason my dad asked me..........

i checked it out today

and SINCE THE 10th OF AUGUST!!!!!!!! i have been driving without MOT

on the back of certificate it says its a cirminal offence, and i know it would invalidate my insurance.

i know as part of the theory test one question is your only alowed to drive car if on way to test centre :P does this mean that i could get done for not having one the past few months?

obviously im gettin it done 2moro, but will they say anything??

by criminal offence what does it mean? points, a ban? fine? conviction...............?

dont worry about it mate, your lucky that you didnt get caught by the police, but apart from that there is no problem, the reason being the MOT station cant prove that you have been driving your car over the last few months. If they ask then just tell them that the car has been off the road for some engine work or summot.

mines in april thank god, would a De-cat or engine being tuned on a 1992 J reg fail the mot?

i have done the same thing before mike... don't panic... book it in for MOT and take it in... they probably wont even ask about the last one.

The only way anyone would know is if you had to renew your road tax, or got a producer. I've done it before too, as i'm sure have a lot of others.

If you do get a producer before you get an MOT then get one sharpish and go to the station and produce. you will have your rights read to you and that will more then likely be it. (just make sure you say that say that the prev owner said the MOT run out in new year and as soon as you found out that was not the case you got a new one - they write this down).

Obviously if you havnt got a VALID MOT when you produce they'll probably have you. expect a fine, I think max ?100??? you wont get points.

lol rang around a few places this morning

got booked in for a test at 10 oclock :)

went along, arived exactly on time.

asked guy if i could watch em do it, so went through to workshops. all the mechanics stopped work (nationwide autocentres - aka Lex) and came round my car wtaching it go through MOT !!!

was quite cool to get some interest in my car :D got some nice comments

all commented on how the work i had done was to a high standards concidering i ent no mechanic or bodyshop person.

digital dash amazed them. along with other mods like astra bonnet vents

and to my embarasment

she failed!!!

1) Excess movement in steering wheel - fookin stupid snap off kit!!!
2) excess movement offisde rear wheel bearing - fair enough!
3) excess variation front brakes - causes the vibration under heavy braking. annoyed at that, as i have 2ltr brakes and good pads and disks to go on, but as i havent got my alloys yet - will have to buy more brakes that will fit under my wheels to get it through the MOT :evil:
4) emmisions to high - twin 40's :twisted: hehe

oh well i thought, asked for a quote for the repair bill.

came home and thought i know - ill fone bernard (friend of family who does moms car)

he said it was a bit of a wounder i paid for an MOT as he does my moms for free on his lunch hour, i said yeah fair dos, wanted mot done in morn straight in straight out - thats fair enough

he phoned my next door neighbour (who/how we know bernead through) she works for car spares and got us a price for the replacement parts

coming in at UNDER ?40

so

bernard sorts me car out and gets me an MOT, fookin majorly stressing day back forward back forward! and also a wasted ?40 oh well :(

and i was supposed to be in college............. nay mind.

bit gutted that i:

A) wasted ?35 on a MOT i could of got for free
b) had to buy brakes i didnt want as i have 2ltrs to go on

c'est la vie!

ill be up and ready for the next shows :D

and buy the next time u c me ill probly have even worse emmisions as ill have me engine mods done and probly no rolling road tuning!

end of the day if it looks road legal the chances of u getting done is............NIL.

their not fair,coz wether ya car passes or not depends on wot mood the guuys in,

You might hate MOT tests, but there a fact every driver with a car over 3 yrs old has to put up with, they are there to try and insure ur car is roadworthy or more imporantly safe for you to use on the road.

Im sure many people have driven with no MOT before, but if you were to have an accident, theres a very good chance your insurance company will turn round laugh at you and ur policy will become invalid causing you all sorts of grief. Mike didnt know and thats just bad planning ;) but for every1 else its a good idea to know when ur MOT is, u can do the thing a month early to get it out the way / sort any probs b4 it expires!!
