Ok so I called Sky up to get a quote on a 1.6 16v nova saloon, now the car does have a few mod's here and there so when the said £1041 I was happy.(and thats only 3,000 miles a year)

I then do an online quote on the Mercedes 190E (2.3) Cosworth....£800 (and thats 7,000 miles a year)

Now is that strange?

Basically all statistics with insurance companies, if there has been more crashes with that car then another then it is more expensive or more theifts of cars in the area that you live in or the age of the person you are and what the statistics of a person round your age crashing that car. Plus with mods they see you as a more of a ristaker then someone that doesnt mod. Because what else would you mod for. there very narrow minded.

There's a whole bunch of reasons as to the whys and hows of insurance calculations. Suffice to say, modified cars are usually more expensive than standard.

My 240bhp, 4WD turbo Celica GT4 is currently only £30 more to insure than my 150bhp XE saloon nova at £350. Both modified, the Celica is FC with business, 10k/year, drive any car; whilst the nova is a basic 3k/year TPF&T policy. Go figure.

I went from a nova GSi for 1200, to a Vec GSi, all mods declared with 235bhp, for 950. Both with no NCD. It never adds up lol

He's 20, and your 24, and you dont know his circumstances, no claims bonus, or if he has points, or what points, so you can hardly look at his quote and think it would be the same as yours can you?!! :wtf:

I went from a nova GSi for 1200, to a Vec GSi, all mods declared with 235bhp, for 950. Both with no NCD. It never adds up lol Because a nova is a chav, boy racer car, which are stupidly easy to nick, have no safety devices, have a 80% chance of it being written off if you crash at a speed above 5mph etc......... lol lol

Whereas a vec gsi is a safe car, will have things like an immobiliser/deadlocks, abs etc etc etc...., doesn't have the same "image" as a nova

It makes more sense than you think when you look at it that way, as to why novas are expensive to insure.

My insurance nearly doubled going from a modified nova to a standard mondeo though...

Hi,

ThankS for all your input, Yeah I'm only 20 but have been driving a company car since passing at 17.I don't have any NCB however as named drivers don't count?

Think I'l leave the saloon off the road, Till the weather gets better and I'm more likley to take it out.

Cheers

True, but some companies offer discounts for driving experience even with 0NCB.
