Sorry jack but you are incorrect, you do need insurance to keep a vehicle on the public highway, and on the road outside your house classes as this.
A mate had his AX GT stolen a couple of years back and got done for two cars that it hit and got done for having no insurance as he told them in his statement it was parked on the road outside his house:cry:
So yes you are required to have current and valid insurance if its otr:thumb:

His insurance company should pay you. Insurance companies only deal with each other on the behalf of the brokers, who in turn act on your behalf. There's nothing to stop you dealing with either the broker or the insurance company yourself.
Spud, read the Road Traffic Act 1988 :thumb:
In fact, sod it, I'll read it for you. Give me a minute lol

i thot you only needed insurance to drive it lol guess im wrong then!
The RTA 1988, section 143 a states
(a) a person must not use a motor vehicle on a road unless there is in force in relation to the use of the vehicle by that person such a policy of insurance or such a security in respect of third party risks as complies with the requirements of this Part of this Act, and
(b) a person must not cause or permit any other person to use a motor vehicle on a road unless there is in force in relation to the use of the vehicle by that other person such a policy of insurance or such a security in respect of third party risks as complies with the requirements of this Part of this Act.
Note wording: "use". If the car is simply parked on the road, you are not using it - however, you would then need to push or tow it on and off the road to avoid "using" it. Take caution over the word use as well, as some police might try to sting you as storing goods in it as using it.
Also, if you have a spare £15k to spend, you can deposit the Accountant General of the Supreme Government and then not require insurance. Again note the wording - deposit. When you're done with the car you can demand the return of the money.

I'm sure all you need is tax/mot to leave it on the road. If it's stationary, and someone hits it, its at their fault and everything goes through their insurance.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but i'm sure that's how it works

Fcuk that. £15k for free insurance, forever? Bargain if you ask me.
I thought you needed £500k to cover yourself on insurance? What happens if you write off a ferrari? lol
Thats how insurance works - you don't pay your current insurance company a few hundred thousand pounds just in case you hit a ferrari do you?
Section 143 of this Act [above] does not apply to a vehicle owned by a person who has deposited and keeps deposited with the Accountant General of the Supreme Court the sum of £15,000, at a time when the vehicle is being driven under the owner’s control.

Untill you need to claim.
I thought this was unlike an insurance policy, in that the deposit was to keep the money 'safe' sure I've read somewhere that you don't need insurance, or rather, can cover yourself if you can prove that you could cope with a payout of at least £500,000

i never thought u needed insurance. i had a nova and a saxo parked up on a busy road for months a few years ago without insurance and the police never said anything.
and also, itl be hard to prove that the car has no insurance without asking the owner. just because it isnt on the database doesnt mean the owner or somebody else's insurance doesnt cover the car
look. its not legal. i asked my godfather whos a copper. it needs to be insured to be on the public highway, simple as.
the "pay cash=no ins" is ok if the accident isnt your fault, if it is the other party can take you to court for damages. if you kill em the usual payout is £200,000. wanna pay that? i thought so.

All insurance has to be listed on MID now - if its not listed, or listed with errors, then the insurance is as good as void.

He's never read the RTA then? lol
they class use as it being sat there. its using the highway to park. typical cops lol

He is right, i have asked my sister who is a frsehly qualified copper ans she concurs that a vehicle "parked" on the road is using that part of said highway in as much as its using the space it is parked in, so therefore it does need to be insured and if said vehicle is uninsured and someone crashes into it, you as the owner will be done as if its not insured it shouldnt be there in the first place!
