had my car for a very long time but have never had a logbook! what shall i do about sorning it? i still need to get a log book but do i tell them how long i have owned it, as i might get a big fine :mad: any way round it can i tell them i got it of joe bloggs a month ago lol?

Just reapply for a logbook with the appropriate form from a post office.

They should have a record of the sale from when you bought it, if the old owner did his bit and sent off the logbook. Although if its neither SORN-ed nor taxed, they also should have posted you a fine by now... might be worth checking its not been scrapped or suchlike.

no never sent bit off, still in the previous owners name, he was holding on to the logbook till i finished paying for the car since then he lost it and i havent got round to getting another one

If he's hung onto the logbook, didn't inform the DVLA about change of keeper and hasn't sorned it himself, then he will get the fine. It's up to the seller to send off the logbook and inform the DVLA of the change of keeper, not the buyer.

If you apply for a logbook, then they will notify him that someone has applied to be the new keeper: if he doesn't dispute it as fraudulent then they will send you the logbook. Up to you then to SORN it bud :thumb:
