As said on MIG there is none as very (if any) people have done this yet.

The 2 litre turbo is a waste of time. Either do the 2.3 or don't bother.

There was one about. Didnt sloth have some pics of it?? Its a v6 IIRC similar engine to the GM one.

If you want a 2.0 turbo, LET FTW!

I asked on a SAAB forum ages ago [can't remember the URL, found it in google] and the general feedback was despite all the fuss surrounding the magazine-headline grabbing 2.3, the 2.0 was a much better engine and revved much higher. Decided against it in the end though.

The V6's are basicly the same engine (ive worked on both) its common to use saab top end for a v6 nova due to the clearance. IMO go for which ever you can get and make sure parts are around for it.

Didnt notice anyone shooting you down TBH.

But in all honesty... if it hasnt been done before that would tell me it wasnt worth doing. But hey, its your choice and your car. Good luck with it.

Tbh pete, think about the first people to put 2.0s in, people problery thought the 1.6's were fast enough and no point in putting in a 2.0

Not bashing just spreading teh love :D

right, the engine you need is the 2.0 post 93 saab 900 lump, as the engine is 2" shorter and the sumps shallower. you need to cut he os leg like a xe alt cutout but the full length of the leg. the wiring is easy 7 wires and its a go. get a full donor car not a ebay lump. the std t5 ecu is infinitely mappable, so no phase chips like a let. a 2.0 bottom end will take 350bhp as std, and 270 bhp is just a stage 3 map with a decat. the front mount is similar to a v6 into nova mount, very easy to make up. the engine will bolt to a f20 or f28 if its post 93. use a cally turbo clutch centre plate. rests easy matey. pm me if theres owt else!

i have found a complete saab 95 in the scrappy
he told me i could strip it for 200quid i.e everythink
its a 2.0 eco turbo engine
and sitting rite next to it is a redtop turbo saab lump
he said im not aloud it tho :(
if you fancy a journey for it then let me now i can give you the scrappy number etc.

Sloth

its the same engine matey, just that the di cartridge (red bit) is different cos the ecu is t7 not t5. 200 is good but if ya get a full car, if ya miss summat its there for ya. t7 IS remappable aswell, but the wiring is harder. easy.

Jack
20-01-09, 08:46 AM
Saab 9-5s were all T7 afaik... they used the B205 and B235 which were T7, the 204 and 234 were T5 and in the 9-3/9000/900. [edit: ah, read that as the red DI engine being IN a car, I'm assuming its just the engine sat there lol]

You'll also need to take the sump off and check the oil pickup for sludge.

If by eco you mean its a B204E, don't bother. You'd be better off with an XE, the B204E is only 154bhp.

[edit again] Sloth, do you know where the engine code and number would be on a Saab engine?

Sloth
20-01-09, 02:14 PM
no, but im on www.saabcentral.com (http://www.saabcentral.com) , so ill ask/search for ya mate. btw boys, join the aforementioed site, theyre a helpfulbunch and their tech knowledge is immense.

TBH i dont see why loads of people dont use the SAAB turbo engines! They cost the same as an XE conversion but offer fook loads more horsepowers!!

bai1ey
20-01-09, 07:24 PM
i am goin to put a 2.0 8v in my nova till i can save up for a doner car then you will see the saab turbo converstion

Sloth
20-01-09, 07:25 PM
yay! another smart man! its about bloody time peeps realised this!
the simple facts are:
a let is £1500 for a good std one.
a saab lump is £500, and that comes with a car attached, and heated leather if ya get the right one!
to get 500bhp from a let its £1000s
to get 500bhp from a saab its a set of injectors, a 4 bar map, an uprated turbo, and a remap of the std ecu.

i dont get why peeps still use the let tbh.

bai1ey
20-01-09, 07:28 PM
sloth you make me want a saab more every time you post lmao

haha i have my cav and a saab 9000 2.3 cse in slough... had to rent a garage to put it in! ebay, just look for rattles from the timing chains, sludgey oil, and boost issues. fsh is a win and the chain recall is too. easy.

bai1ey
20-01-09, 07:38 PM
kool thanks i am looking into a garage to set a small buisness up from and to store my nova's/other cars

Not as standard; the R is 200/205bhp, but the E and L are 155 and 185bhp.

Sloth
20-01-09, 09:54 PM
yeah but to get an e or l to r spec is just the ecu map.

It cracks me up people going on about the Baas lump. Yes it is a great engine (the 2.3) but there is loads of info about how to install a LET so your average joe will got for a LET over the Baas lump as there is more chance they can get it to fit, work etc.

Once there is more gen on the Baas then more people will start to tune them.

actually the 1.8/2.0 conversion was being done years before the 1.6 was available in small block form. (the 1.6 big block just wasn't worth putting in.....)
