Need help guys.

My nova's drink petrol like its got a hole somewhere (which it hasnt!)

My excessive driving speeds aint helping I know but its still losing up to 100+ miles on a tank.

I'm sure my mixtures too rich at the carb (engine note is high idle and the enbgine pinks on acceleration), but I dont know how to adjust to correctly.

There are 2 scres I need to change - one large white plastic screw on the left (fuel pump side) and one small narrow brass one on the right (under choke cable).

Can someone please explain what each of these does (Haynes aint very helpful) and what setting they should be at? I've turned down the white one and the engine note dived - it seems to be idling ok but when I slow down quickly the engine judders.

Help?

these carbs are truly cack!
ive got one on my sr (2nd carb!)
the auto choke is a common fault on them, ie not coming on or not switching off-does this happen on urs?
im not too sure on tweaking the pierburg carb, but to get it runin spot on you're best takin it to a garage that can plug a CO meter on the exhaust and then tune, prob cost ya no more than a fiver.(+to tweak idle speed etc etc, the auto choke needs to of switched itself off)
if you're spendin a wodge of cash on fuel, you could look at gettin the weber 32/34 direct replacement, apparently runs much better and more reliable etc etc
seen a couple for sale on here for bout ?50 not long ago.

ade - the big white one is the auxillary idle mixture screw and the other is the basic idle mixture screw. can't tell you much more apart from the auxillary screw is used for adjusting the idle speed more than anything.

i find mine uses masses of fuel if the aux screw/idle speed is too high.

hey ade, hows you? the haynes manual explains really clearly how to adjust the mixture to a decent level but you will need an exhaust gas analyzer to get it perfect. If you have an autochoke, it will be worth buying a kit to convert to manual choke. It comes with everything you need including a cable but if you can get hold of a choke cable from a nova then atleast it will suit the interior.
I can get hold of the kit if you cant. They are between 15 and 20 quid if you want me to get you one

single choke carb?

if so haynes shows you edzactly how to do it.

if its 2e3 carb the screw you need to turn is the one under the throttle cable(red circle thingy), i for the life of me cant remember which direction does what tho lol i think turning it clockwise turns co down. how your gonna get this adjustment right without checking co emissions is beyond me tho

go to local garage and give a mechanic a few quid to turn a screw for ya if your unsure.

cheers guys - its a single manual choke basic pieberg carb. Not gonna bother getting a diff carb (webber) coz have plans in new year to get another engine anyway.

Seems to be running ok now - may take another look at the haynes namual - couldnt get my head around it at 1st - I just go by how the engine sounds when its warm and how nippy she is when on the motorway.

Will take to garage after Christmas - Service due end Jan anyway

Cheers
