Hey fella, that's some parts list!! Glad there's another v6 maniac in the making!! Is there a big power difference between 4Gs and 2Gs + 2As?

valvercorsa
25-01-09, 07:41 PM
yeah so i have heard mate, ment to be very lumpy tho and most people dont like them but im goin for POWER and nothing else.

ive got a few thing to add but this will be kept to myself and i hope i can have it built and ready to run on 6 and 7 of june.

well i no its been 15 days since last posted on my wip but just havent had the motorvation until today when a mate turned round and said that his xe'd corsa will smoke me at PVshow anyway (he does own my old xe lump so he does have a very tiny chance :)) so car is now in the air and ready for the new lower arm's to be trial fitted. engine is in little work shop and is goin to be painted etc tomorrow.

If you lose, I personally will slap you on behalf of all the V6 elite for making us fail against these silly 4 pot whizz bang drivers.

do u have to cut any inner wings out or bolk head out to fit it in?

novadoneitthistime
12-02-09, 09:25 PM
Fr panel needs a trim and then the rear exhaust manifold needs a tweek. Apart from that it's not too hard.

valvercorsa
19-02-09, 04:42 PM
well got my engine in a few bits now :)
oil cooler is f**ked and dunno weather to fit an external one:confused:
i no the water cooled way is better but will a air cooled one be ok??

my corsa lower arms are cleaned up and ready to go on, got my steel plate to make engine mount.

cleaned engine bay up ready for a respray, thats about it really

:thumb:

novadoneitthistime
20-02-09, 08:13 PM
You could reroute the oil cooler pipes for an external jobbie, but tbh, I think it's a lot of extra effort, the new style cooler cores are much more reliable than the old ones, and if you've already got it out...., up to you though.

valvercorsa
20-02-09, 08:37 PM
i have got a second hand internal cooler given so that will be goin back in :)
head ports are very small aint they lol they will be having abit of porting

novadoneitthistime
21-02-09, 04:21 PM
yeah in fairness the v6 is a bit of a rubbish engine. any naturally aspirated engine should be aiming for around 100bhp/litre. These things are only about 66bhp/litre, and they're not terribly responsive to tuning. Even if you get 200 brake from them they're still only 80bhp/litre, they Its a good job they sound amazing!!!

valvercorsa
21-02-09, 04:29 PM
from wat i have red its the inlet that restricts them if i can get its to suck abit more air, maybe it may go abit more lol
was thinking of fitting bodies but its space in a nova init lol

novadoneitthistime
21-02-09, 04:47 PM
hahaha! yeah bit tight at the top eh! I've seen pics of em with throttle boddies on, but only ever with the bonnet open hahaha, must need a big buldge! I've heard that the ally air divider (bolted to head and inlet manifold) used on omegas flows better, and because it's metal you can grind it to match the ports. too much effort for 3-4 horse imo.

valvercorsa
21-02-09, 05:07 PM
yeah ive heard that aswell, its the 3.0l one iirc. been thinking about a 3.0l short block :) instead of rebuildin mine.
but theres some posts sayin that it ups compression and others sayin they dont fit:confused:

would like to get the most out of it first time around rather than take it to bits again lol

its just if they do fit 1 of my head gasgets has gone so going to get them skimmed and with 4 'g' cams in will they clip piston:eek:

novadoneitthistime
21-02-09, 06:23 PM
hmmmmmm, not sure, shouldn't think so, You'll have to try it so we can all find out!! hahaha

or so im the guinepig lol

novadoneitthistime
22-02-09, 05:05 PM
I cant be bothered going to 3.0 at the minute. There's a gain in torque but not much in power, and it takes longer to repond than the 2.5. If i do swop out the 2.5, im going 3.2!

valvercorsa
22-02-09, 08:14 PM
never thought of 3.2 lol

taking heads to old work place this week so i can strip and port them :)

valvercorsa
27-02-09, 07:21 PM
update
right took my heads to old work place got them stripped down now and into toxic cleaner. its was really messy inside valve stem seals were like stone and wouldnt come off lol so they been melted :D
all valves seamed ok they been cleaned tomorrow, hoping to get them ported tomorrow but depends on time ;)

going for block paint tomorrow and going to get it stripped over the weekend.

thats about it really had some pic's but not very good so not going to bother uploading them :)

valvercorsa
28-02-09, 02:20 PM
been and turned heads over as they are really bad so they are getting another day or so in toxic, valves have cleaned up really nice.

hoping to get them out and ported over the next few days. just going to remove all the paint off block and get it prep'd for a new coat of paint :)

fetched my heads back home today for some porting etc.....
they have been toxic cleaned and just need abit of wire brushing :D
as i stripped my heads etc.... i have found that it already had the 3.0l divider and gsi cam's (2*G's & 2*A's) so was happy about that :)

valvercorsa
04-03-09, 06:58 PM
been and collected all my hammerite and paint for engine and other parts today :) and the all important BRAKE CLEANER lol a must for all engine building

valvercorsa
08-03-09, 10:31 PM
these engines are really heavy i can pick a xe short block up but these v6's are twice as heavy, having to wait for some help to get it onto engine stand lol

got my heads shiny clean just doing some little porting and polishing, got my inlet divider painted and ported. pic's to come soon

novadoneitthistime
08-03-09, 10:41 PM
aye, the engines are some weight! Not sure if I'm regretting the V6 route now. Especially when you consider all that weight sits a lot further forward than a 20XE and a lot higher too. I doubt it'll ever handle like a nova should. But you cant beat the noise!hahahaha

valvercorsa
09-03-09, 07:30 PM
i no am thinking if i made a mistake, i took out a fully rebuilt 180-190bhp XE to rebuild another engine just to gain abit more if any BHP and maybe 50lb/ft of torque.

please someone tell me ive done the right thing lol

matt_vaughan
09-03-09, 07:37 PM
You've done the right thing...........

Well, it'll sound great anyway

valvercorsa
09-03-09, 07:43 PM
cheers

Steve
09-03-09, 09:53 PM
Yeah mate its more about the sound rather than the handling, plus with all that torque you shouldnt have to change gears as often. My 2.0 8v would pull fine in 5th at 30mph up to xxx speed lol

valvercorsa
10-03-09, 06:58 PM
ive yet to hear the sound lol
it should be fun even if it wont go round corners

valvercorsa
15-03-09, 08:49 PM
well i have stripped the bottom end and its in need of a re-bore and new piston's, its a good excuse to buy a 3.0l lump. so if any1 has 1 :)

dj_wudgey
15-03-09, 09:35 PM

do it dude lol

valvercorsa
15-03-09, 09:42 PM
think after hassle i have had with engine car will be off road abit longer than expected so car will be painted lol just to decide on a colour now

Jack
15-03-09, 10:06 PM

Depends, what do you want it for?

My Saloon is a long distance motorway munching cruiser, ergo the V6 is the obvious choice. For a car that you want to drive fast and actually handle, the V6 will no doubt be the wrong choice.

Although I do like being able to say I have more power than a LET at half the cost LOL lol

valvercorsa
16-03-09, 07:27 PM
lol going for a 3.0 lump :)

novadoneitthistime
17-03-09, 08:40 PM
lol going for a 3.0 lump :)

Good lad! Good lad! Stick with it.

Just make sure you get a low miles engine with good history, I'd hate you to have to strip down all those 10,000+ nuts and bolts to find another minced short-motor:cry::cry:. Has that fella in Durham still got his for sale? shame there's no heads with it.

valvercorsa
17-03-09, 09:27 PM
think i may just hold out now for a good engine, me and my kid brother are starting a new project for pv :) will be a budget build with all the bits we have collected over the years :)

all i will say is its still a nova lol (kinda)

Sloth
17-03-09, 09:36 PM
i may know of one mate, want me to ring 2 moro?

valvercorsa
04-04-09, 07:42 PM
well after a long think and a few chats on the phone to my mate carl at RHINO ENGINEERING the nova is going in for the cage and cradle fitting for the mid-engined v6 :) so now for some more research any info you have please dont hesitate to contact me :)

novadoneitthistime
18-05-09, 08:01 PM
Well if you're going to be mental might as well be really mental!!!lollol:thumb:

Get a front cradle off a veccy. would be perfect for the job as absolutley every component bolts to it and it has fantastic hangers to bolt up to custom made cage! I've got one sitting here you can have for free if you want to collect it.

sorry mate this has been a scrapped idea for now lol too busy as new baby arrived 30-4-09 lol so i have put a x16xe in the car
