hi all im just starting my first ever car project on my 1.2i red 3dr 92 nova! i will be taking driving lessons in feb so this is my first car aswell. The car itself isnt in bad condition machanically but the shell needs a bit doin to it, main problems are rust in rear arches and typically doors, and a dent where my sister tried to lean to drive and epically failed into a brick wall (grrrrrrr) i hope i can get some advise on what to do to it and how ! :thumb: and how do you put pics up in the threads????!?!?

Looks OK Not to bad, needs door, NSF wing and a damn good t cut!
What are the rear arches like?
Mite be a good idea to take some photo's of the prone bits to go on a nova, then host them up here and people will tell you what to do etc. :thumb:

yeh cool im vry annoyed atm as i t cut it last weekend, looked great and shiny i was amazed at wat a differnce it made, and blackend the bumpers, but a week sat at the front of my house next to a main road got it coverd in crap!! and yeh the arches and doors are under tape atm ile put some new on after pics. what i plan to do is lower it 40-60mm havnt decided yet??? put some gsi skirts, bumpers, nice 15-16 alloys and new spray any other suggestions???

60mm drop :thumb: rest of your plans sound good, look forward to seeing more pics :)
Go hunting for rust before you do anything to it! No point spending money on the car if in the long run you find out it needs X amount of money spent on welding etc. :thumb: Best advice you can get IMO, and im sure many users will agree. Jay.

yeh thanks for the replies, its passed its MOT no probs, apart frm the rust on arches and doors they said it could become a problem in the future, tomorrow ile take a few more good pics, as iv invested in a new camera! but if i put 15s on a 60mm drop will it rub??

It wont rubb on 15s it might with 16s.
Depends what tyres, go for 195 45 15's and you should be fine.
If you have the time, take the bumpers off to find any hidden rust what may need repairing/replacing. :thumb: Done this to mine and was happy i fixed the problems now rather than later.

It will with stupidly big side walls and "most novas" have a tolerance of about -+5/10 mm so you may be lucky and have no problems.

yeh i reli need 2 go hunting the engin bay looks pretty clean tho, only thing is a piss annoying squeek from the heating fan, must b a baring or somthing? thats gonna b a job to get at. and yeh doors are the main prob atm as when you open them they drop like 5mm! and my dad said he will get it in a "road worthy condition" which means doors and arches so if u know of any let me know ;)
Try the for sale section mate, if no luck post a thread in the wanted section :thumb:

yeh i got 1 in wanted but is it just me or have the prices gone up 4 the doors? a small while back i was gonna get some for 30 each now its 70 each!?!? and below in the nxt img is a little sketch of the future LOL!

lol duno im cambridge way tbh iv never noticed them so im not sure if there is 1 around here. and ile take some pics of the damage tomorrow. and what kinda suspension do you need for lowering as im an uber noob at modding cars im thinking... coilovers?
You can just get a 60mm lowering kit if your going 60mm if not then 40mm kit and so on.
Coilovers is a good choice too.

oh rite which is cheaper? i guess it would be better to get a adjustable kit?
Better in what way, it is only needed for changing the ride height all the time, as your cars just going to be preety much standard a 60mm kit will be fine, you should find a decend second hand kit for under £80. :)

thats a price! yeh ile go rust hunting 2moz and take pics and post em up, wat mods can u do to the engine without having to change insurance? and i was thinking of wacking a smallish wide arch kit? and possibly novadose kit or gsi?
Gsi bumpers and skirts if your going to. A big no no to the nova dose and wide arch. Wide arch only looks good when your wheels fill the arches, and 15's wont.
What you mean mods, you can get away with an air filter but thats about it, why what do you have in mind?

like air filter cam set if u can get 1 for the 1.2? i reli think it needs a 5 speed gearbox its got a 4 atm. and thats all it is i suposse yeh i like the look of the gsi as it keeps it lookin how it should lol
Air filter will make noise difference but thats about it. IMO you dont really need a 5 speed it wont go any faster or reduce mpg :thumb: Keep it lookign as standard as possible, do little mods but don't go over the top. Shame your so far away would of given you a hand with things seeing as your new to all this nova malarky!

yeh man tht would have been helpfull, my dad used to do up old ford capri's aggeeess ago so he knows some stuff, its just dragging him out to work on it, apparently according to my sister its been having a few problems lately as "apparently" all the power goes for like 5 seconds then cuts back in as normal i dont have a clu what this could be ?? any ideas?
Could be a number of things plugs ok?

yeh i had a look at them last weekend and there fine, hardly any soot and a nice orangy colour

yeh i will get the doors sorted should be getting them in a week or so, i will update the post then, then the work sould start as i will beed to respray it all as i dont want a multi coloured nova!, couldnt i just weld in a plate on the upper crossmember as the rest of it is good?
Your drivers door is mint you dont need another lol.

hi all today was my bday and i had my first run in the novagini!!! very exciting lol, should be going out again tomorrow. Got a new radio and 2 door speakers (kenwood) so i should fit that lot tomorrow!

small update, iv picked up a few trims and carpets + a parcel shelf, doors should be coming soon, got new radio and speekers in just need an amp now! lol i will post pics later today

one of my mates was clearing out his garage so i got all the parts cheap, and iv got a wing tht needs painting and some doors on the way, still need the arch kit, the car didnt have a radio in it at first so i had to buy one! lol and the car is already road worthy, just needs some cosmetic work.

right small update i have orderd the arch repair panels (thanks jay +rep given) done a bit to the interior to make it look neater mainly the boot carpets and radio's fitted, done a small amount of fillering to boot lid where rust spot was, thats primed now. Still waiting on a mates mate for the doors, oh and bought a on the spot buy back box, will proberly look very gay tho, yeh thats about it, not goin 4 the chavvy alloys anymore im on the look for some vauxhall ones :) i got a couple of abyss bumpers but dont think il put them on either as i trial fitted them and i thought they looked a bit chavy too (no offence if you have them) if anyone in cambridge area has a mig welder i can borrow i will be very gratefull :) pics below

lol yeh im defo not fitting the bumpers im trying to sell them they look soooo bant, might trial fit the back box just to see what it looks like, just getting realy frustrating having to wait for doors, because when the rust is done with the major work like paint and style can start

right another small update, i recieved a differnt backbox, from gaxjoiner that is now on, i have also installed SR seats (i say i installed them but napalm did lol) got a pair of new doors to be put on now, so just need to save to do some welding :)

disconnect the oil breather pipe coming from the back of the engine to the filter and put one of those tiny filter straight onto the box under the starter lol

get to work with the G3 and flatten it down fairplay for giving it a go spraying . did you sort the rust first before painting the car ?

I asked that when he first posted those pics in general chat, the answer was nope, the rust is covered by duct-tape, and painted over lol
Iirc, he has got two doors to go on eventually but couldnt get them collected in time to paint and fit!

yeh, i didnt bother with the doors lol there completely rotten and will go in the skip so no point in wasting paint. and i have sprayed both the doors now, altho one came out very badly with a massive sag through the middle so im going to do that again this weekend and fit them this weekend :)

dont get me wrong im not slating your work but IMHO a little more preporation and this would of come out a whole lot better , looks like you rushed to get it painted .

yehp thats true, we fannied around trying to get the connector for the compresser and ended up making one with garden hose LOL!! and we had about 4hrs to spray the hole car! so im pleased what we achieved, its my first spray so wasnt reli expecting much, will do it again next year proberly, it was my experiment and i think it looks better than it did before!
