Here's a copy of what I wrote on V3M concerning fuelling issues:

Once again I am having what seems to be fuel starvation issues!

It started when the car felt a bit juddery and about 5 mins later it would barely move under acceleration and then 5 minutes after that it wouldn't drive at all.
It would idle - just. Any attempt to increase the revs was met by it attempting to stall.

I had to drive about 6 miles home with the choke pulled fully out, slow going but I made it. I don't understand why I couldn't use the accelerator yet the choke worked?

I have two ideas what the problem may be, the first is the flexible fuel pipe I used to replace the old braided stuff doesnt clamp down very well on the 99p inline plastic filter I fitted, and the feed pipe has twice now been 'pushed' off the carb. Causing air to get in? At first I put this down to a poor jubilee clip (philips head type) I replaced it with a decent proper one and nipped it up. I couldn't pull the pipe off, yet a few hundred mile later and it just slides on/off.

The second idea is maybe the carb is at fault. I have another and will swap it over. It came from a running 360 and I would like to see what it runs/performs like.

I will get new fuel hose tomorrow if the motorfactors has it in, Anyone know what ID it should be?

Can anyone shed any light on this? It's starting to annoy me lol

*BUMP* More info - still fkd.

As copied from V3M:

I have changed the fuel pipe. Was running 8mm before, now it's 6mm. Much better, nice tight fit everywhere (boiling water FTW)
Started the engine and still the same! So i swapped to my spare carb and once the fuel was pumped through it was much happier. Was misfiring (I think) for a minute or so but I persevered with the throttle and it seemed to clear up. I then adjusted the choke cable and disaster! The clip that holds the cable to the carb body has broken. Now I have no choke and the car seems very juttery/missing again. I have drove it with no choke cable before and although cold idling was an issue it never done this!

Does this shed any further light on the situation and does anyone, preferably local! have one of the clips in question?

I still plan to drop the fuel tank and flush it out/repipe but that's a job for the summer as I will weld the diff and fit a clutch/change the gear and diff oil at same time. I just need it to work for now!

BTW I haven't tried driving it yet, because with no choke If it breaks down I will be stuck and I think the AA are getting a bit sick of me!

Long shot, maybe get the carb stripped and cleaned/DIY?? Maybe a jet is blocked hence the poor and indifferent running??

When you open the choke this will allow fuel through, hence masking the problem?

Probably not much help lol

Cheers Pete. The carb was stripped and cleaned by me less than 500 miles ago! Now running a different carb, from known good running car. Just about to go for a drive see if it's OK :roll:lol

Have you checked the belt (Or chain ?) and dizzzy cap/leads/plugs?

/\ Good point. Are you sure its fuel. Could be a lead breaking up? When they get hot, if it is breaking up, heat will make the problem more apparent.

Cheers lads. Well done about 10 miles last nigth (mates house) and it was fine once up to working temp. Before that I had to be very gentle on the revs or it was bogging down. Like I said I have no choke cable connected at present, so that's why it didn't like idling/driving when cold I assume?
Leads/plugs/rotor arm/distributor cap etc are all new and no more than 1000K miles old. They aren't damp etc.

What it could be I guess is the king lead. I couldn't find one long enough anywhere (900mm) and the OEM part seemed in good working order so I just left it. Have ordered one now though from vehicle wiring solutions! Cheers for the reminder :)

It could do with a timing belt kit soon but I was hoping for better weather TBH. It crossed my mind it could be at fault but when it's warm/happy? It revs up fine and is sweet as a nut.

I don't kick it's head in and cover little mileage so I was hoping it would last me a bit longer!

I thought belts either stretched, snapped or jumped teeth? All of which I would notice! :( lol

I posted this to be educated though. So please feel free :)

Could it have an air leak somewhere? Try spraying carb cleaner or WD40 on the inlet when the engine is running/warm, but remember that they're both flammable so avoid spraying them on the exhaust or electrics.
