hi, anybody got some tips on how to make a good head for an 8v engine?

i have got a 1200 carb'd head, 1300 sr head with bent valves (didnt like 8.5k)lol , enem x17 300 deg cam and twin webers..

also got a modified head, which seems to have the same size of valves as the 1300 sr (was a sport head) but has been ported and polished, it also has anodised valve springs..they are anodised purple/red? anybody know what make they are?

what mods to the head can we do ourselves?

i could send it away and get it ported and polished but could we not do it?

dont really want to spend alot of money, thats why i am asking if anybody knows how to make the best head using standard parts or how to increase power?

cheers

Greg

What engine size is it? Starting with a round port SE head will give you a good base to work with.
1.2/1.3/1.4sr heads all have the same size valves as standard. A sport head is just a normal 1.3L one....
Its the SE heads that have larger valves.

1.4 block mate..

but my inlet manifold for webbers is cathedral ports so i would need to get a different inlet manifold..

i do actually have an sri head sitting..

whats the best head to use on a 1400 block?

i know the 1200/1300 heads are good, as i have tried it..goes well as the compression is raised..

would a SE (1400 sri) give more power than using a 1300 head?

see the 1.4 tuning guide in either sig link or articles section

What t40 inlet do you have? Square or cathedral (theres a big difference), and your doing yourself no favours if you're using a square port inlet on a cath head.

sorry made a mistake there..

it is all matching..

i was running a 1400 with 1300 head and inlet, enem 298deg cam, webbers..

it went well for what it was..revved to about 8k happily..never heard it bounce valves once..

not saying that is the thing to do but i wasnt bothered if it went bang..i wont do it to the engine i am building now..
