Just done it myself - bloody works. Bearing in mind it was just to get a quote, my 5door nova with just the braided brake hoses added.

Awesome lol

I just get a page full of "unable to quote" for the Celica.

After spending 55 minutes attempting to get that (MOD network bandwidth is cranked down over lunchtime... plus no doubt everyone is probably trying the same trick lol), I cba to try the Nova lol

[edit] Managed to get a quote on the Celica at last. All mods declared (with braided hoses - which I may just have to fit between now and renewal :D), FC w/ business, 10k/year, SP50, + my sister as second driver... ~8 years NCB, grade A postcode = £202. Sky was £400 last year (albeit with like for like mods and drive any car) lol

Can they charge you extra after taking out the policy though, if they say the quoted amount was a mistake? Or at least cancel the insurance? I don't really fancy being insured for a month, then they write to me asking for another £xyz or to cancel the policy, costing me a months NCB...

stevenf
12-01-09, 03:17 PM
its so temting to take it out. if you were to pay in full could they ammend the policy to make you pay the correct amount?

Sloth
12-01-09, 03:24 PM
nope, once theyve quoted you its a legal contract to cover you at that price untill 30 days after the quote. i just did a let nova with a big spec and it came to £1211 fully comp, without the braideds, its £3677!

Prob fixing the glitch

Jack
12-01-09, 06:43 PM
It was slow earlier. Although, I do have a copy of the quote in my email, which I may decide to take up :D

I'll be annoyed off if they do fix it, my insurance is due beginning of Feb and Sky's renewal quotation isn't exactly competitive lol

Plug

Ash
12-01-09, 08:15 PM
Either they've figured it out or it's closed for the night. I know that sounds funny for an online quote but it does depend on the time of day for some reason.

Jack
12-01-09, 09:31 PM
I might have a go tomorrow with the nova.

Either way, I've still got the £202 quote emailled to me for the Celica. May have to take that up lol

I did LOL at this though:

Using this service is FREE! There are no hidden charges: you pay the same as you would dealing direct with the insurer.
Right, so why did e-car insure me via their own website for >£1000? lol

[edit] lmfao @ this link (http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17963649), some people talk a complete load of balls!

However, as pointed out on there:

eCar Insurance may cancel this Policy by sending You not less than seven days notice by recorded delivery to Your last known address. We will reimburse You on a pro rata basis the premium for the period of insurance still remaining.
So when they realise they've made a cock up, they'll write to you saying "you owe us £xyz, please pay within 7 days or we cancel your policy".

Lets hope this doesnt go tits up.

Ah never mind, read RJ's post, stuff like this always too good to be true.

just be carefull as Rj pointed out when they realise they will demand £xy cash or void your policy

Adam*D

This insurance "scam" if ya like is now the most talked about bit of info on the Internet! it's on all the sites me and the wife go on and we've had mates ring us and ask us if we've heard about it! :)
Can you imagine how much business this has drummed up for this company? they have probably had more business today than in the last 6 months!!! It might not be too good to be true, you'll just have to pay your money and take your chance, but I would say once you get a insurance certificate then they can't ask you for any more money............................. only time will tell!

NovaBoi92
12-01-09, 11:39 PM
i would have payed for this. if i were 17. if it IS all legit, i will miss out big time :( unless i can buy insurance now and use the policy when im 17 if you see what i mean lol

Sloth
13-01-09, 12:55 AM
i bought the cover on the cav, and there isnt a get out clause, the nice lady said as soon as you have the quote they have to cover you at that price. ha ha ha epic win!

Jack

True, but read my post above. It says in the T&Cs that they can cancel the premium at any given time. So you take out the policy for £202 or whatever, then in 6 months time they decide "oh we made a mistake, we're cancelling it". You lose 6 months NCB. You will be covered until they realise the mistake then cancel the policy. I would be extremely surprised if they let this slide, people are getting insurance quotes on daft cars at 17 etc.

TBH if it was the Nova that was due for renewal, I'd be tempted as I don't use my NCB on that, so an xyz month cancellation isn't a problem.

On another note - how crap is that mod system. I have to chose "suspension changes" and give details saying its been lowered with higher rate springs. Yet if I say "non-standard engine fitted", they don't ask for any more details lol

[edit] Looks like they fixed the ecar bug. I did manage to complete a Nova quote though: Non-Standard Engine, Braided Brake Hoses, Non-Standard Respray, Strengthening Brackets, Alloy Wheels, Uprated Brakes, Suspension Changes; 0NCB, 3k/year, TPF&T = £344. Says "Phone Price Only" though...

sulphur
13-01-09, 07:54 AM
That made me curious last night when I was looking through, regarding the "non-standard engine". Are they trying to say, when you select that and no more info is needed, the quotes will be alike for a 2.0 8v, a 2.0 16v and a LET?

Mod system seems to be based on suspension, wheels and brakes really. Doesn't seem to work well, but on the other hand at least there's a 'decent' choice so that the majority of mods can be declared online for a 'more accurate' quote.

Jack
13-01-09, 07:57 AM
I would assume they have one flat loading for an engine replacement. You might find some of the companies will request further information, whilst some are just happy to know it has a different engine fitted and charge a premium for that.

13-01-09, 08:44 AM
I was having a play about with this, its not any cheaper for me but i did learn that autotrader (who im with now) is asking Less than i pay atm, and thats less with all the mods declared, rather than not being declared

Just done a quote and although i didn't get a <£200 quote, i have got a one very good one for:
XE Nova, nitrous, coilovers, brakes, braided hoses!, cage etc for £387.

my brother showed me this last night on another forum saved me 800 quid and saved him 6 grand its going to be spotted and changed soon i think as its on every last forum lol

and its better im fully comp now lol and can finally change my insurance to being under my london address and not the herts one

Jack
14-01-09, 01:33 PM
I would suggest anyone under the age of 23 avoids this, as your NCB will be too important to lose xyz months worth in the event they do cancel it mid-term.

turbojolt
14-01-09, 01:36 PM
i was thinking this but how can they cancel it its a contract with them is int it surly you can just pull out half way through or can they

my brothers policy on his 106 is still running, they tried to cancel but after looking at his policy, it said nothing about the braided hoses on his, he was covered for alloys, lowered, exhaust and tints but nothing about hoses so they couldnt cancel
