Way back in the day when nova's were common place on the road and The PNG was not long in starting up i had this little diamond black gsi. I spent an absolute fortune on it and went to various shows with it, back then i had the registration J16NOV which i had on all my Gsi's & 16vs around that time.
The previous owner had also spent a small fortune on it lightening and balancing the bottom end, fast road cam & remapped ecu which at the time went really well so i kept it as it was. Having spent too much on it i thought i had gone as far as i could with it so sold it to my mate in 2000. He still has it to this day taking it off the road every winter and giving it a full paint job, he just cant help himself.
Over the years i think its had a 2.0 8V in it, 2 redtops and now has just had a 2.5 V6 plumbed into her
Trix in dunfermline is the man responsible for doing the conversion a few months ago with a little help from myself i might add :D
Basically the engine went in place fitted with an F20 Box & flywheel, once in place he mocked up a front mount and got it fabricated.
The nova was previously fitted with an C20XE so existing shafts were used.
Removed power steering and got a shorter Alternator belt.
Front manifold and downpipe fitted without modification but rear manifold was shortened and welded at a different angle after which the downpipe was modded to go round the steering rack, this was all done and lined up perfect with the existing exhaust system.
A slim line fan was used on radiator due to lack of space and the landing panel was trimed slightly to go round timing cover and oil filler etc.
Everything else was pretty much straight forward.:p
Its an absolute beast and sounds the dogs danglies :thumb:
With the right suspension set up you wouldnt know you've got all that weight up front
With
If you fit 3.0 ltr cams and an uprated fuel regulator these engines are capable of over 200bhp :D
The initial mocking up making mount etc. takes time but basically the car was in and out within the week

That looks awesome! I'm just on with making my front mount now. I'm using the veccy x25xe engine so I need to trim loads off my slam panel! :-(

I know what you mean though, I think the front mount is the trickiest bit I think it'll all be down hill sailing after that. Maybe the exhaust?

Do you know what belt they used for the alternator?

Just looking at that last pic.

That pipe I've highlighted, I think on my vectra it went to the top of the expansion bottle. I think it puts the expansion overflow from the thermostat housing back into the bottle. Not sure it matters, but thought I should say.

Just fit a 3.0 and have >200bhp standard lol

Looks smart though. Tidy install! Shame about the vents on the bonnet being a bit pointless but I guess they're for a previous engine...

What poundage springs did you use on the front?

Front mount was quite easy, just put stands under engine and moved it till perfect then cardboard cutout ftw... mate made it up in 6mm steel for £40.

Alternator belt used was a unipart one model GMV61050

Yes way back when i had it, it did have calibra leather in it. Ally took that out & got a nova rear retrimmed and bought evo fronts trimmed in leather. MINT :D

The vents were on the car when i bought it so reckeon the've been there for about 12 years now. Part of the fixchers lol

Its away getting rear inner & outer arches fitted the now and a wee spruce up again so come selling time it will be mint ;)

Hopefully if i get my mk1 finished were both hoping to come to a few shows with them.....

Cheers for that! saves hours of trawlking through belts down the motorfactors! I didn't think that pipe mattered, I'll probably put it in the same place, looks neater.

Would love a V6 for the noise of it, and that looks to be very well done!!

But by the look of the engine bay, the handling would scare me, what does it drive like?!!

In between working on my own project ive been helping my m8 out with this.
Its had both rear arches replaced, monteray bonnet scoop removed and basically everything bar the roof painted. Didnt come back from the bodyshop in a clean and finished condition it should have done but after a lot of hard work its looking pretty damn good i think.
Its not going to be up for sale now as he aint going to Australia any more so i brought Oz to him and put on some Holden badges.

Interior consists of Black Leather Evo front seats and retrimmed rear.
Has also just had a new Custom ICE install by Trix. Originally had the custom builds in the doors with alpine 8" mids and kickwell builds with alpine 5" & tweaters ran of 2 amps. New boot install consists of 1 12" alpine sub rather than 2 10"s and an additional V12 amp. So 1 amp per side running fronts and 1 amp running sub, there is also an alpine time alignment thingy in there aswell to distribute the sound better. (So im told ) Build was trimmed in black alacantra.

Mine was well wedged with the plastic covers on so we had to cut loads off, but that was with solid mounts. The metal covers give a bit more room (and move the oil filler cap so negate the problem anyway)

[edit] Forge Action Day on saturday has proven how well a V6 handles anyway, even with crap suspension and tyres :)

Ive had a astra gte 16v, corsa c20xe and this nova.I dont think the nova is the worst handing car of the three, the corsa is!.Std springs and shocks with a c20xe is a bad idea (I bought the car this way). The handling of the nova is not bad at all, yes it is a tad heavy esp with no power steering but its nothing like as bad as i though it would be.And the noise from it is defo my fav part of the car!.

The clutch is in but the clutch arm has been welded into place!.The clutch arm will not move the clutch correctly so at the moment its scratch head time!.There's at least 2 inches of needed movement to work clutch so im not sure how thats gonna be repaired.Looks like the old clutch is brand new, what a surprize. To be continued............

Sounds like last owner really has made a bodge eh!
When we done the conversion on this car originally we fitted it with an early flat type flywheel from an 20XE with the relevant clutch
and an f20 gearbox.

The clutch arm was welded in the wrong place!.Looks like it was just welded on anywhere and it would burn out the clutch in 200 miles or so.The clutch arm would not move the clutch all the way off the flywheel so it would get hot and you have no gears what so ever. The clutch that came out was nearly brand new and was smooth.I do have a video of what it sounds like but someones gonna have to help me put it on here. Its LOUD.....

why the fook was the clutch arm in need of welding ?

I dont know why it was but its all sorted now.In the wet, the nova is a animal!.It doesnt like the wet one bit, in fact, it doesnt like the dry either!.I have never driven a car which wheelspins all over the place even when your not trying to go fast.It only does 0-60 in 7 or so secs because of the traction issues.once you get over 70mph then it really is fast.It has never failed to make me smile when im driving it!.Im gonna be changing the front end very soon so i shall put pictures of before and after.
