Just wondering if anyone works with/on them? Any company be it National Rail, Vital, ATA etc. Any position, maintenence, engineer, designer etc.

Got a few questions I could do with pickin' someones brain about.

Anyone ?:D

I'm a Design Engineer for Plain Line Renewals on the Great Western, work for Amey. I think Paul on here works for Balfour Beatty on Wessex in a similar role. What'd you need to know?

It's mainly regarding a PTS card, and employment.. I've been after getting working on railways for ages, and since I was laid off before xmas it seems quite the perfect time.
I know I need a PTS card, but I can only get this buy recieving sponsorship by a NCCA company, but in order to get the sponsorship I need to apply for a vacancy on rail maintenence and be accepted.
Although looking further into it I rang ATA and they said they'd sponsor me to go through the PTS course, but don't guarentee a job at the end of it. Downfall of that is they want £600 upfront, seems a bit steep if there's not a place waiting for me..
Just hoping there can be light shed on an 'easy way in'?
I don't mind paying for the course myself...but hopefully pay it back via deductions from my following wage packets?

Any help would be mucho great lads:thumb:

Hmm, interesting one. I'm not familiar with ATA but would guess they are a Sub-Contractor? Do you know what field they work in?

http://www.railwaypeople.com/rail-job-companies/ata-rail-375.html <-- ATA Rail

I rang through a bunch yesterday and noone would entertain me without a PTS, but at the same time weren't offering sponsorship.

hey mate, I work for Jarvis Rail in York as an estimator. all very quiet at the moment.
I get my PTS with my job cos I need one.
Would have thought one of the agency suppliers such as Leda, Vital, Scotweld etc etc would be your best bet, however Network Rail are prefering to say much more contractor employed staff now instead of sub contract labour. But they are prob your best bet in.
