Theyve always been cheap? You can get a K/L reg standard turbo for £1200 now.

A turbo wagon wll only fetch ITRO £900 aswell!

EDIT: Turbo 2000 is a UK model, non import, thus lower spec lol

At 23? How you manage that? £750 F/C for me, non clean license, 3 claims now (as opposed to 4)

I'm sure early classics were below a grand a while ago (4dr's)

I sold Colin McRae (iirc) Recaros, mesh head rest type from a classic wagon for 280 after I paid 60 lol

Plenty about if you know where to look, cadburys internals aren't my choice though lol

Jap 4WD has been cheap for a while tbh. And as said, when you buy it, its a £2k car; when it breaks its a £28k rally car lol

on scoobs:
the cheap uns are cheap fer a reason. i looked at an sti l reg for 1100, it was fooked, and had a non sti lump in it. make a good track car tho. the ones to buy are still 2.5k.
a mate of mine did a std 2.0 non turbo estate. bought fer £300 as a cat d, it had fsh and 45k miles. he got a rolled sti fer £700, and combined the 2, and the std 2.0 is in my uncles split screen camper!

on gto's,
the import ones are less power than the uk's, but theres only 2000 uks registered. they like to eat headgaskets, turbos, and pistons. the other issue is bits are non existant, or very expensive. hope this helps

I bloke I used to work with had a Mitsi 3000, it was a really nice car until something major broke, I think he sold it because the repair would cost more than it was worth.

Thats because they're cheap as chips to buy lol

I wouldn't fancy attempting the cambelt on one though!

I've been eyeing a Sub for the Hills, a bit of Closed road staging and misbehaving. STi RA Editions can be bought for like €1200 on Jap plates straight off the Docks so it is tempting, but as previously said, reliability issues do arise, in which case buying 2 may be the best option.

how much prodrive ones fetching these days, lots of imprezas going cheap over here cause of the recession, only thing is they have all been rallied around country roads and hard to get a good one,

Is the STi RA the lightweight classic version Dod? We can't buy straight from the docks here :( I used to work down there doing ro-ro stuff with POV imports etc and they won't sell from there. Your docks are much better lol

Speaking of bargains, a lad from ROI is flying over on Friday for my mates Honda ATR, buying it for 3700 pounds, says the same over there would be 7K pounds! I know he has to pay 700 euros a year tax though. Killer.

Dod
07-01-09, 11:04 AM
Yeah Liam, the light wieght ones. Strictly speaking you cant really buy them off the docks, strictly speaking that is. Nothing illegal, but you need to know someone that knows someone to do it.

Liam, chat?

That's because they are sh1t. lol

No, that's unfair, but they are a bit too common for my liking. If you want a car of that type I'd say an Evo is always a better option.

L14MNP
07-01-09, 11:35 AM
^ Yeah, Evo all the way for me too. They hold their money better though, even the Proton based 1-3 lol

The Evos are by all means the more superior car but Scoobs are cheap Power which is the only thing thats attracting me to them. I was nearly killed in one before so I never likes them but for the money, I'd have one. Also, the sound is lovely.

The Phase1 cars are **** though.. Wouldnt waste my money.

I've got a soft spot for Impreza's though and I wouldnt mind getting another one.. Problem is most of them are either way over priced or ragged to hell and back and pattern part prices are ridiculous mainly because the basic engine and chassis has remained the same until recently so there is still a 'new car premium' on all of the parts due to them being the same accross the different model years.

For example, you go and buy some track rod ends for a 1992 cavalier they are peanuts.. But you want track rod ends for a 1992 Impreza you'll be paying the same price as the guy who wants them for his 2005 impreza.

Depends what floats your boat.. The Scooby is more of a drivers car.

Its actually the ridiculously un-equal length manifold on the turbo models that gives the burble.. the N/A ones just sound like VW Campervans.

evos love spinnin big ends, all of them do and when you go to rebuild them it has to be done professionally to get all the measurements because there are 5 sizes of big end bearings and chassis number wont show the right ones

So will this method make a Nova "burble"?

If you put about an extra 14 inches of header pipe on cylinders 1 + 3 I'm sure it will lol

No matter how cheap, i wouldnt want to own any car that requires complicated surgery to replace 4 spark plugs.

You've clearly never done a set of plugs on an Impreza then :thumb:

Piece of piss once you get the right length 3/8" extension bar.

Infact the only job that is a REAL bitch on that engine is the exahust manifold but thats ok because engine out is only a 1.5 -2 hour job (on a drive way) thanks to the the bell housing being half way into the engine bay and the brilliant positioning of the downpipe :D

Makes doing a Nova lump feel like a hassle :D

lol First time I did the spark plugs on the GT4 it took an entire afternoon and 2 bottles of coolant (most of the first one went on the floor lol)

The second time it took about 30 minutes from start to finish and no coolant! Tipped CC ftw lol

Scoobys are an awesome buy atm. A s**t load of car for the money.
270bhp, 4wd, hand built blueprinted forged engine etc Sti for about £2500?

And yeah some you see are a bit chavved up, but its an image/stereotype you are used to if you drive a nova! lol

The equivalent-ish Evo (IV), costs pretty much twice that

What I found with mine was it was an easy car to drive fast and subsequently was first caught speeding the 2nd day I had it. It gives so much confidence to the driver due to the grip and roadholding, that you soon go faster and faster to get the same rush the longer you own it. When I first stepped into mine the 280bhp seemed phenomenal, 7 months later it was re-mapped for more power. I drove mine hard, but sensibly (warm up, cool down etc etc) and had no issues.

Would get one again, but my driving licence has now become even more valuable to me......

I find the opposite, never been caught speeding in a fast motor.. Been caught in slow ones; when you have a slow car you just want to keep it going as fast as possible because when you slow down it takes decades to build that speed back up lol

I was on the way home after getting familiar with the car on good roads. On the motorway stuck behind a queue of overtaking traffic doing 70mph, as soon as it cleared wound it right up only to see a car keeping up with me, hmm, need to go a wee bit faster I thought. Yup un-marked Traffic car. They were very fair with me I must admit. First and last set of points on my licence.

This is the problem I have. I want to step into the car and thrash the life of it, park it up and leave it til the next time and I dont think it'd last too long though.
