no idea on the machine. But Living with Linux is easier than most people think, infact its a great OS for surfing one handed websites :D
stuff like office is covered by OpenOffice (legally free) etc

I've used my mate's Aspire One. It was quite nice to use, however he was running a specialised version of Ubuntu for small laptops opposed to the distribution that comes with it. So if you don't like what comes on it there are other options...

Linux is a pretty good OS to be honest. Its stable, easy to use, and more flexible than windoze.

The only reason I don't run it is there's one or two apps (and most of my games) that won't run on it :( And I can't be arsed with a dual boot system. Might make this a gamebox and have my old K6-500 shed as a chat/web machine :D

As for the machine, Acer are pretty good from the small experiences I've had with them.

I've used the Vista based Aspire One and its a well put together unit. I've also used competitors ones using linux and the OS is fine for browsing the web/email.

Word is that the next series from most of the major manufacturers will have a 3G receiver built in, which should be handy.

I bought my wife one for christmas.

It seems good. She only uses it for the internet.

Just got one:). I've got to say its pretty funky. I bought one of the basic ones but with the 120Mb hard drive and in white (which as we all know is the new black jim;)). It looks great and works really well considering its size. It boots up straight off and is refreshingly free of all the usual windows power sapping guff that most of us never need to use. The plus's so far are the easy to use O/S and the keyboard which even a wooden fingered numpty like me can use easily. Downside would be the touchpad and left and right click buttons which are very sensitve and a bit fiddly. I'm going to get a wireless mouse anyway as I find them easier and quicker to use.
