View Full Version : if you had a mint gsi

Right, if you had a mint gsi nova in silk violet, all original apart from the usual subtle mods but with standard mint interiour bodywork etc. would you leave it as it is with sweet recently fully rebuilt 1600 engine to keep it as a future classic, or do you stick a redtop in it like al the others and ruin and de-value it?

Theres not enought mint standard top spec novas left around no more imo, want to get this across to my mate dave!

if id have one?

id just chop the crap out of it, lol

leave it small block 8v ;)

well depends what you want it for. it would be nice to see standard ones around !

Novaboyleon

exactly, the only novas to be redtopped imo is base models like merits etc, unless you keep them standard minters

if i had another standard Nova i would have sex with it every night. clean std cars should never be modified.

Novaboyleon

suspension upgrade and wheels are the only really necessary change i think

04-01-09, 08:17 PM
Why would sticking a redtop in it de-value it and ruin it?

lol stick one in and have some fun in it. Its not like a GSI is a rare model, like a sport.

And when you say subtle mods, you mean.....?

i had an imaculate silky gsi about 4 years ago loved it to bits just the way it was spax 60mm and speedline 2020's thats it,
and some smack rat stole it and wrapped it round a post, hence the looker in sig, but nothing will replace it,agreed on the basic model upgrades, and mild upgrades on the rarer specs

Novaboyleon
04-01-09, 08:22 PM
indeed top spec models are worth more in more standard form i think

Benn
04-01-09, 08:24 PM
I dont want a slik one, gotta be a black one.

And as youve allready said its got " usual subtle mods " so its not standard so might aswell change the engine and so on.

Novaboyleon
04-01-09, 08:26 PM
would you say redtop a nova sport? gte and gsi novas will become as rare and sought after as the sport soon i think

*Dave*
04-01-09, 08:27 PM
leon!

my car isnt standard and the mintest.
speedlines,coilover,v6 brakes,full exhaust system,heated seats,momo steering wheel,sound system,ETC.

i am not throwing loads of money at my 1.6 to make it faster when i can XE it for half the price.

id like to leave the 1.6 in but ii want it faster, END OF!

i completly understand what you are saying but as (NOVA SALOON) has said above, ''it depends what you want it for''.

and one last thing its too late to go back.
1.6 lump is sold, engine bay welded ready for paint and the xe alomost built.

arrrghhhhhhh george, just wanted to get a few opinions thas all ol boy, you kno what i mean tho, when looking to but a gsi or gte like i was a little while back early last year its hard to find one that doesnt hav an xe in it!

Benn

would you say redtop a nova sport? gte and gsi novas will become as rare and sought after as the sport soon i think

People have. But the sport was a proper LT, as there where only so many made.
The gsi and gsi was a full run. So now as rare or special.

Novaboyleon

you dont see hardly any around though anymore!

EUROTURBO
04-01-09, 08:45 PM
as much as it would be nice to keep a standard GSI in pristine condition, you want to start with a high spec base car in my opinion to get the best outta what you want, if you want a track slag then i see your point and base models the way to go but for a high qualtity finish of a GSI. theres only a few ones around and to be fair they do look good.

So? You dont see that manny spins but there where still thousens made is my point.

All depends if you can drive a standard car about. I couldnt, anless it was made to be better that vx could build it, much like Dec has.

oh no no no george we not in no competition, as im not cheating, anyways its nothing to bragg about beating 1.6's when you have a 2.0, i'd like to see though how well i might do against you even with my subtle engine mods

Jon shield of courtenay did it...

I also have an xe'd gsi and is definitely worth more than a standard gsi so not sure where the devalued comment comes from.

Always liked silk violet along with diamond black and with them being rare in that colour these days I'd be tempted to keep it standard but as said it ain't standard so doesn't matter too much. And you can always fire a 1600 back in it if they become so sought after but I can't really see them being THAT sought after, also, it's pretty easy to replicate a gsi and there are probably more reps than originals

Novaboyleon
04-01-09, 08:54 PM
thats what i mean its ok maybe to do it to a replica but originals aint easy to find

draper
04-01-09, 09:14 PM
its only a bloody nova lol

the whole charm of novas is you can make them pretty quick (baby XEs/XEs/LETS etc) for next to nothing

If I had a mint silk violet GSi... and I wanted a tarmac eating beast, I'd get another Nova and drop the red top into that.

It is my personal opinion that silk violet is the nicest colour. I would love a GSi in that colour ever since my friend had one a few years ago.

I wouldn't do it, but then... that's only my 50 pence worth.

A mint Silk Violet GSi....

...... Lowered 60mm on good shocks and springs, K&N panel filter, and sunroof open.

Done.

Silk Violet is a rare colour in GSi's but IMO not the nicest.

I think diamond black metallic is the nicest, with either white or red coming second.

All in my opinion of course, theres a lot to be said for a tidy silk violet too.

Standard GSi's are lame. They need an engine conversion and better suspension at the very least.

Don't see the big appeal of standard Nova's at all.

also, GSI's ain't that rare, we have atleast 5 and 1 rep in my town, only one is the standard engine, 1.6t, 2.5 v6, and 2 xe's, one of which is painted a different colour (k95vhd)

Thats not mint. However if that car was mine I'd remove that ugly splitter, halfords fuel cap, stick a proper parcel shelf back in, fit unpainted or body coloured skirts. Then once it didn't look molested I'd think about what to do engine wise. I don't know what suspension is on it, so I'd sort that, stitch weld and plate the chassis then if I had the funds I'd fit an XE or LET.

it has spax RSX coilovers on it, and its being XE'd as we speak.

I had a clean near standard GSI. Only on speedlines with 60mm springs.I changed everything, but still kept it subtle and looking standard, more OEM+? And i think its a hell of a lot better!End of the day its your car, do what you want to do with it.

Im with leon on this, there aren't enough original ones left. Ok so it isnt 100% original but no-one wants a nova with std brakes and suspension!

I know dave won't change his mind but I still reckon he should leave the 1600 in, they're not exactly slow and can still be tuned to get better performance.

How many people have seen a nova redtop with speedlines? everyone! lol lol

True but you have to ask youself why there are so many like this. Its got to be because it works well.

1.6's are slow, XE's aren't quite as quick as everyone likes to make out either.

Meh, I put it down to lack of imagination! :tard:

Theres loads of other vauxhall wheels besides cesaros which suit novas, although no-one seems to realised this! I've always done what I think looks good and thats it, I don't just think hmm I saw a nice gsi the other day with a redtop motor, speedlines and a digi dash, think i'll do the same! Vauxhall should have known better and just built them like that out of the factory! lol

LMFAO! Slush puppy coolant FTW :)

If you want my 2p's worth, fitting an XE only molests the inner wing, and that can be done nicely. SO if you ever feel the need to go back to a lawnmower engine, you can and no one will ever know the difference!

or as someone has said in the post , run a front mounted alternator , no mods to your inner wing then ,

there are a few cars which runn them , just that no one will give you info on it lol i tried and got nowhere so just battered my inner wing ,

but if your good at fabricating things up you could do it easy

I vote for a nice tap with the hammer instead of cutting/boxing the leg. Much neater and as said, much more subtle even if you revert back to small block it doesn't stand out.
