Hello everybody, i have a Toad AI606 alarm on my car, had it on since last sep with no problems at all until it got cold, car wouldnt start so i changed the battery and all ok until around crimbo time, left the car for 6 days without using it and would it start ? would it f**k ! jump started and drove around fine, now parked up on friday and gone to get back in to use it this morning and flat again !! Any ideas anybody ? as this is driving me crazy, i know that it's going to use abit of current but it shouldnt drain the battery flat after a day and a half ! the altenators fine and theres nothing stupid like the boot light on, anybody please ?
Are you sure the alternamtor is fine have you had it tested as i would say its not charging properly and that why the minimal current drain from the alarm is flattening it.
But having said that where fitted the alarm as it might be an idea to get it checked by the installer if youre 100% certain that the alt and battery are both spot on!

I havn't checked the altenator with a multi meter yet but once running you can run everything i.e the fans, lights a/c etc without adverse effect which shows that it's charging, i will check 100% tommorow at work though, i'll do this and then call the installers if it's all ok, the battery is brand new so it aint that. Thanks for the help, i really hope i can sort this out as it's driving me mad keep having to jump start my car !!
Id say its your alt not charging proerly tbh and short runs to and from places like work for example are nailing the charge out of your battery faster than your alt can put it back in, i knows this as mines the same on my cav so i need a new one aswell, take it out for a good drive with only your lights on, no stereo or anything else for say an hour or so and see how it does in the morning if its alright then alt is probs your answer:thumb:

Hmmm i hope it is the altenator to be honest as it's going to be infuriating trying to trace it otherwise, i jump started it earlier and took it for a short drive and it has charged the battery so i'm unsure, surley it wouldnt have charged it up if it was nackered ? someone else has suggested that it is a diode in the altenator that allows the battery to drain ?

Charge the battery up, leave it disconnected overnight then see what happens. It could be that the battery was OK until it got cold....

Its possible for ya alternator to work just not very well, this is the case with mine, its been fine going all over during summer but now im using my heated seats, lights, demister, blowers, radio and sometimes wipers every morning its taking more charge from the battery than the alternator can resupply, if i dont use anything other than my lights and heaters on low then its fine unless i go for a drive for an hour on the night to make sure it has charge in it, this is why problems like this only show in winter as youre using far more electrics all the time and therefore more likely to show up a weak battery or alternator!

Agree with above comments, The toad alarm is not likely to be causing you the problems. If you find the battery and alternator are fine tracing the culprit that is putting extra load on your battery is easy with an ammeter even if its only capable of measuring up to 2A. If you need clarity on this just ask but I doubt it will be needed.

Thanks for your help everybody ! well yesterday i checked the altenator at work and it is charging perfectley ! i have checked the battery it's self and it appears that it is nackered, upon load the power just drops like a stone all the way to 3.6v !! i got given a new battery on warranty and have put it on so fingers crossed for tommorow morning !
