how do all,
dunt post on here very often as i have always found the info i needed, but carnt find anything on 3.0 conversion.

me and my brother have done a few c20xe conversion's into nova, corsa and astra.
also c20let conversions into corsa and astra.

we decided that its time to take the c20xe engine out of my old b registered nova and fit a 3.0l.

so need help and advice

1. we no we have to custom make or ajust the exhaust manifolds,
2. inlet to 2.5l (may have a bike carb conversion yet :D),
3. heard that they have trouble with temp under engine bay, what have people done to solve this?
4. which engine is best?

and any more info you can give me
thank you

also will be fitting a f20 box with equal length drive shafts

f25 or f28 would be more suited as youl have trouble geting power down as it is i recon

valvercorsa

f20 is fitted with Limited Slip differential and will have paddle clutch.
sorry forgot to add that

i no f25 or f28 would be better suited but want to keep build price to a minimum if possible and i already have the f20 from my c20xe engine.

thanks

I'm sure you have space an F20 out by 20mm to fit a V6, as your finding out its not a very common swop so info might be limited..

i no think it may be a case of learn as we go along. just thought i would ask on a off chance that someone has had a go at it before.

i thought that you could fit the c20xe flywheel and clutch so that the box fit's, but until i get the engine i wont no.

If you do it, and it works, write an artical for others to follow in the "articals" section :thumb:

i thought that you could fit the c20xe flywheel and clutch so that the box fit's, but until i get the engine i wont no.Early redtop flywheel, use the redtops flywheel bolts as the 3.0 ones hit the clutch plate.not much between the two types mind.f20 box you wont get the benefit of the torque if that makes sense,it will rev past its powerband to quickly.Might be jumpy round the town with the lighter flywheel also,i think the rear exhaust manifold you can use the omega one.Oh and change the thermostat before you put the engine in,pig to do once engines in.The astra front engine mount gets 23mm spacers added,as its a shorter block.not sure how that would be done in a Nova though, custom mount of some sort.;)

I remember your b-reg from pvg days mate, I was registered as nova-myth, good to see your still on the scene.

Not sure if its any harder to wire up but the vectra gsi 2.5 v6 is 192bhp. :thumb:

Ive always thought that a nova v6 would be cool and thats the one i'd want to use if I did it. Let us know how you get on. You got any pics of your nova as it is now?

yeah mate, it looks same really. for now:D . having it painted glazier white once i sorted out if this engine fit's, never leave the scene. its been parked in storage for last year or so, fitted the bike carb'd engine into an astra estate but bought a vectra sri for the family car so engine going up for sale soon.

think i will b using the 3.0 carlton/omega which ever i drop on :thumb:

ive put the f20 on the 3.0 v6 puttin in a corsa tho but i got a mounting kit off chris ashley and the mount for the gear box is the same as the xe but when the engine is in place on the gear box the gear linkage hits the starters solinoid so is the 2.5 v6 solinoid tucked up out ofthe way of the linkage due to being front wheel drive standard?

iirc rj is planning this fer his saloon. its been done a few times, there was even a v6 turbo nova at the group thrash in tv a while back. do you know that c20let pistons fit the 3.0 v6? try chris astley fer the mount, he should know what to use.

Theres some very interesting bodgery involved with this conversion. Are you sure you could cope with that Steve? lol

If you have any issues Valvercorsa, PM me and ill try to answer them. Ive learnt a lot in the last few days :)

Sloth
07-01-09, 01:53 AM
i have heard of said bodges lee, hair raising to say the least. as someone once said to me, " eeee lad theres plenty 'o ways ter skin t'cat!" general verdict is the omega manifold (exhaust) at the back and make the downpipe meet. s'funny but in a corsa c the mani clears everything, apart from the plastic shield round the column to rack joint. must have a bigger bay. anyway, gerron with it and get pics up!

Andy_L
07-01-09, 12:47 PM
Good luck with it.

Somewhere I'm think I've read that the 2.5 with 3 litre inlets is a good move.

sulphur
07-01-09, 12:51 PM
Why stick with the 2.5? I'm sure IIRC the 3.0 and the 3.2 block are the same size, just need to use the inlet from the 2.5 on them to fit.
Correct me if i'm wrong..lol

valvercorsa
07-01-09, 05:05 PM
cheers fella's its been too dark on a night when i finish work to get any pictures up, just been gettin shell ready for roll cage and making room for conversion.

going to be using a 3.0l v6 1993(onwards) omega engine as they got the power and torque that im after, the 3.2 is a newer engine and dont really have much more power.

Steve
07-01-09, 06:48 PM
But the 2.5 from a vectra gsi is 190bhp.

John
07-01-09, 06:59 PM
But the 2.5 from a vectra gsi is 190bhp.

Only due to the cams/inlets etc. However The veccie gsi inlets etc won't fit in a nova, you have to use c25xe stuff.

valvercorsa
07-01-09, 07:02 PM
i no mate but trying to find 1 of them is going to be harder than supermans nut's lol

am going to be happy with an omega 3.0 v6 engine + they cheaper and i get bored easy :D, maybe if i like it then i got a plan for next one already ;)

My bad, I thought the 3.2 had 220bhp or so, but it's got the same power figures as the 3.0.
From what I read on VVOC when I had my Vec GSi, the best mod you can do for the engine is a lightened fly, saves you around 9kg IIRC.

Edit: The above, plus a 4bar FPR and you should see if big difference. :)

yeah it going to have a valver flywheel buddy they over half of a v6 one :thumb:

got a billet steel valver 1 but think thats going too far lol

omega 3.0= 207bhp & 199lb/ft (x30xe)
omega 3.2= 214bhp & 213lb/ft (z32xe)

but think 3.2 be harder to wire in etc with it been a newer engine, so i stick to my first plan of attack lol

slothsport1
cheers mate

Sloth
07-01-09, 09:24 PM
the z32 uses canbus, so its a no-no. but, you can use its block and heads and use the c25xe loom ecu and manis. theres lads with 250bhp 3.2 corsas on corsasport and othersites. 118118 powercrazy automotive aka pca garage in lincoln. they do this stuff with turbos aswell!

sorry about the caps

Sloth

the shafts and mounts are different, so yeah you are right, but as a straight swap, it wont. buy it sell the corsa specific bits and get nova bits.

Member Trix2702 is the man to speak to.
He just completed a C25XE into a Nova Gsi a few months ago with a little help from myself.
Basically the engine went in place fitted with an F20 Box & flywheel, once in place he mocked up a front mount and got it fabricated.
The nova was previously fitted with an C20XE so existing shafts were used.
Removed power steering and got a shorter Alternator belt.
Front manifold and downpipe fitted without modification but rear manifold was shortened and welded at a different angle after which the downpipe was modded to go round the steering rack, this was all done and lined up perfect with the existing exhaust system.
A slim line fan was used on radiator due to lack of space and the landing panel was trimed slightly to go round timing cover and oil filler etc.
Everything else was pretty much straight forward.
With 3.0 ltr cams and an uprated fuel regulator these engines are capable of over 200bhp :D

The initial mocking up making mount etc. takes time but basically the car was in and out within the week!

Will be posting a thread up on this car shortly. ;)

its finding a 3.0l thats close ive been searching for a few weeks now and had no luck. so until one pop's up i stick with the 2.5 at least i've got all parts i need for 3.0 :)

Iv fitted a 3.0 litre into a nova and didnt find it all too hard, the 3 litre inlet can be used but need a small amount skimming of the mating face, so the bonnet can close
