Why not cut+weld up a new tank into just the drivers side half, or mount a cell there then?

Not keen on the price's for ATL cell's Dan. A stainless tank would give way to much reflection into the front AND id be raising the COG of the car :(

Surely for this reason alone a standard tank is ideal on a track car then? I myself have never seen the point of a fuel cell in the car/boot.

If the tanks in the boot, you cant peirce it on a tree stump :thumb:

My tank is in the way of where the exhaust system needs to go though :S problem after fecking problem this fcuking turbo conversion is causing me now :(

My other problem is where to put the gearbox oil cooler & pump aswell :(

Ah, yeah fair point!

G/box oil cooler, could it not be mounted near the rad? How big is the rad? Similar to the oil cooler?

hmm tricky. id personally cut the spare wheel well out and mount the tank off to 1 sie of the hole area under the car, and make a bash plate up. just out of curiosity, what do the works rally cars run?

Spare wheel well is housing for my battery & fuel pump/filter. So thats staying. According to the works manual, GM Built Grp A's ran OE tanks.

EDIT: Actually, i may remove the wheel well, as ill be doing some jiggery pokery to the rear undersid anyway (Ala Lotus Elise stylee)

Another problem. Ive got more then just a GSi rad. Ive got a 3" thick twinpass intercooler INFRONT of the rad, I/C is nearly as big as the rad too!

Could you not squeeze an xe sized oil cooler to the nearside of the I/C?

Can't raise the COG by that much can it?

Surely you could fab one up Mike?

Dont really want to do that TBH. Fcuk knows now, ill found a way round it somehow.

Lesson to be learnt here though chaps.....dont build a 1600T on a whim

Smaller I/C, transit sized maybe, along the front of the cross member?

Would raise it by a good 8" or so.

I was thinking about installing an internal tank & fire walling the rear end! Thing is this is a lot more work for no gain (other then bragging rights). But the additional weight of such metal work "could" help to balance front/rear weight? Again, an avenue of work for another day maybe...

BUT, that would also leave me enough room underneath for a diff & prop at the rear should I get bored of FWD in years to come lol lol

Dan, bonnet scoops are uber ghey lol

Good shout Pete, but for a 1.6T its easier to pipe the cooler if both inlet/outlet are on the same side.

That's quite a bit when you look at it on a ruler.

You'd have to do your sums but I'd expect so.
