Right as of today i have my project nova.

its a J plate, 1.2, 4 speed Spin. in miami Blue.

The shell is clean enough for me (wanted one with some welding so i can practice).

Not so sure on whats going to be the final outcome of this yet cause it all depends on what funds i can get my hands on to but im hoping for a C16XE, stripped out with 2 buckets, Cage, poly windows and possibly Fibreglass Panals.

i know im making it mk1 sr / gte rep. will be getting a personal b plate reg for my birthday in july.

Bearing in mind its going to be a daily driver / Track Slag.

Heres a couple pics of how it stands now.

i also need a Drivers Door.

I cant work on this until i have cleaned the garage out, cause the parents dont want the front of the house looking like a scrap yard so as soon as i get into the garage i will be starting this.

Big thanks to BIGS for offering my this after it was offered to him.

You need to keep the same colour as well

Colours faded badly, when you get a new door and get it sprayed it will look very odd with one freshly painted door and rest of car faded.

My car seemed to be far worse on the whole passenger side than the drivers side; Engine bay turret, sill, back beam, door...

brainsnova
01-01-09, 11:09 AM
its since the passenger is on the road gutter side so all the water and crap soaks the car.

BIGS

Good to see you started on it! As said if you need any help let me know. it i was you id get a wire brush on the inner arch before it can get any worse. then spray some primer or something on to stop it rusting anymore. And mark one seems a good idea. Cant wait to see what it looks like at the end!

Hi, noticed you're not far from me in Exeter.

I've recently bought a Nova 1200 SX and need a gas boot strut as it seems to be missing from my car. Any chance you'd have a spare you wouldn't mind selling?

I've got a GSI spoiler, GSI steering wheel and a generic brand, large bore, back box to shift for; a boot strut, any other steering wheel, a radio cd or cassette, and a standard back box.

Correct me if I'm wrong but from your pictures it looks like you've got a 1.0 push rod engine in that car not a 1.2 OHC?

Plug
10-01-09, 02:02 PM
well ive never seen that engine before but on the log book it says its a 1.2.

i've only got the gas strut thats on the car im afraid.

might not need it if i get a fibreglass tailgate but will keep it until i do.

Jimbo

Jakey Boy
11-01-09, 04:03 PM
well ive never seen that engine before but on the log book it says its a 1.2.

Log book hasn't been updated then, assuming it had an engine swap.
It's definitely an old 1.0 push rod motor, physically its a lot smaller, dizzy drive taken from the block and inlet and exhaust ports all on the same side of the cylinder head are the obvious external differences from the OHC engines.

No worries though if your planning a bigger motor anyway.

Anymore progress?

Right big thanks to Colin (aka NovaRally) for delivering my parts to me this morning.

Just thought since i got them new door and mk1 wings i would chuck them on.

unfortunatly a bit of rain stopped me fitting the door and also i had to go out in 30mins and needed a bath

Was going to get the plough on but its missing a drivers side bumper slider and i had to fix the backer to the bumper so that should be ready tomorrow for some more mincing

im having problems fitting the mk1 headlights into the mk2 i own there seems to be a big gap above the headlight and the bonnet.

Is there any clips i need to go under the headlight like on a mk1???

nice to see some else converting back to mk 1 . how much you pay for that door off colin/novarally? in good nic?

Theres a little clip under the headlight on each side for the mk1 headlights. Although i noticed that my brothers 5dr has a large gap between the bonnet and grill/lights.

Plug
24-01-09, 04:39 PM
door was £50 and yes its in very good condition! Had a pattern doorskin at some point in its life.

right has anyone got any of the clips spare??

dumpycorsa
25-01-09, 11:10 AM
I've got 3 of these spare mate

http://i223.photobucket.com/albums/dd90/dumpydave/018-2.jpg

I bought new ones when I had my front panel replaced. On the mk2s there's one behind each head light that just clip into the bottom of the light. Not sure if the mk1's are the same. Part no for the clips is 90321482 and they are still available from vauxhall.

Also. I've got a 4 door mk2 saloon down the garage ATM. It's absolutley rotten underneath but if there's anything small I could take off it for you before it goes to the scrappy let me know. It's going tomorrow morning though...

Plug
25-01-09, 09:37 PM
them clips are off of a mk2 im not 100% sure what mk1's look like tbh.

I was quite amazed when i took all the interior out to find most of it has been painted. just means i got to use more nitromorse when i get it ready for seam welding.

one quick question will it damage the panals if i roll it onto its side if im careful as i want to strip the sealer off the underside and im not confident on making a roll over jig.

scott.parker
27-06-09, 01:24 PM
Do as others do, get hold of a engine crane, take your doors off put a strap through the car door openings and then attach it to the crane, use the crane to stop the car tipping fully over and roll it onto some old tyres that can touch on the top of the door frame and on the front inner wing (take your wing off) and leave a crap rear wheel on, with no weight it should not damage the beam, plus you have the crane to take most the weight.

Or make a roll over L shape frame.

Scott

Plug
27-06-09, 01:26 PM
might make one of the L frames so when it gets painted i can put it on its side in the spray booth.

well on www.customcages.co.uk (http://www.customcages.co.uk) they say if a qualified welder welds it in or someone who welds some peices of metal and sends it back and passes a test. they will send you out a Msa/Fia certificate

Right as i cant help but spend money on my daily this has taken a back seat but im hopefully going to go and blag an engine tonight off my missus dad.

Seeing as the engine will be free or near enough free im going to have ago at fitting it.

The donor car is a k reg saab 9000 2.3 turbo :)

this will only be my second conversion but by far the hardest.

I will get some more pics when i get the engine out of the saab.

One quick question, i know ive got to run a vaux gearbox but what to go for? F20 or F28?

I think im going to borrow a mates screwed F20 just to bolt it in there and see what needs doing.

Aye. F20 seeing as its your 1st/2nd ever transplant. It should last OK. The SAAB lump isnt the beast a phase tuned C20LET is.

was thinking F20 but i see that most of the let boys go f28

its alot easier to fit the f20 as you probably know but the upside is the f28 will handle the power alot better, swings and roundabouts..

i think i will just try and get it all in with a F20 until i have the funds for an F28 :)

ive just got to hope that the engine will go in and i can wire it lol
