quick vectra question, quick responce appreciated

my manager has just rang me telling me his vectra 1.8 16v has broken down. reckons as he was driving the revs died, got to the side of the road, it cranks fine but wont start. i'm going to go and check the basics (spark, fuel, compression) but are there any common problems and any way to test them?

Print off the ecu fault codes and take a paper clip with you.

sorted, cheers for the ecu code idea dan (never would have thought of it myself!) cam sensor no signal and coil for plug 2&3 over charging apparently. i told him to get it into a garage as i dont have time to mess around with it.
