As an ex-nova boy myself I'm interested to know what sort of mods people are doing to give their cars go instead of show. I took the cheating option and just bought a faster car! But I've seen some fairly rapid novas out there! :D

Just whack the 2.0 16v XE engine in for instant 150bhp! Boost valve filter and exhaust makes mine about 160 and hits the limiter in fifth @ 145mph!

Don't forget the nova is MUCH lighter than Cossie's Scoobie's Supra's so they don't need as much power. I raced an Escort Cossie from 0 to 120 on the way back from Guilford cruise a while back and overtook him at 50, and stayed ahead which made me well happy!

Also a V6 Cougar twice last nite on way back from MK, absolutley wasted him from 2 traffic light starts. He got away in 1st then i killed him 2nd, 3rd 4th until ran out of road! Such a laugh!

You can tune the 1.4 16v upto 180bhp if you have the cash, same for the GTE / GSi engine (1.6 8v).

Or the X20 LET engine instant 200bhp, tune it up to 450bhp! (slightly expensive option)

im running at 180@fly but you can get 200bhp+ with ease now coz throttle bodies are becoming better and better with full kits giving instant 60bhp gains such as sbd you can get 290bhp with their kits 12k tho!

I'm sticking with the smaller lighter engine. I have a 1.6 with Blydenstein B+ head, Piper 285 cam and a pair of Webber twin 40 Carbs. The last rolling road report gave the engine 160bhp at the flywheel :)

i was running 330bhp turbo engine in a cav. the cav was rotten under neath so after the engine blew up, i decided to put it in a nova.

currently rebuilding it with forged low com pistons, lightened and balanced crank and con rods. gonna use aquamist so ive been told i can run it around 3 psi more, so thats 25psi overboost. should be good for some meaty bhp figures i hope.

will be in a nova before end of febuary (buying the nova on weekend)

did have 2litre 16v on twin 48's etc, about 180bhp maybe

im running 1.2 8v power. oh yeah!!!! very slow but keeps insurance down till i can afford a 1.4 16v conversion. what kind of insurance group could i expect + what kind of top end speed would i get with this conversion???

160 from a 1.6, very impressive. And that N/A and not Turdo'd?

Yeah normally aspirated, if you turbo a standard 1.6i you get 150bhp.

My next nova is gonna be front engined rear wheel drive hopefully building it in march. Prob gonna put a 450bhp LET engine with 100bhp nitrous.

You've probably heard it all before but i'll have enough money by then and enough time to build it by Vauxhall Santa Pod day.

I want it lookin fairly standard but it must wheely in first gear down the strip and do under 11 secs! I can't fukin wait i'm grinning like a cheshire cat writing this

I'll keep u all posted tho I won't hype it up anymore till i've actually started the thing.

Barnes if you go for the aquamist system then go for the pricey one with the MF2 controller its far more sophisticated.

If you arent going to go for that, then you are better off getting a wizards of nos system, its better and cheaper than the non ECU controlled aquamist one.

For 450bhp you are going to be spending a LOT of money on your LET, first thing you need to do is throw the total shite management in the bin and get a cossie system or something similar.

You will be needing to run well over 30psi of boost as well, so you'll be needing very low CR (under 7.5L1 i should think) and youll need a different crank and rods as well, so allow a couple of grand at least for those.

350 is very easy to acheive, 450 is a LOT harder.

... bla bla about 53.4 bhp.

you sure you don't mean 153.4 ???
53.4 seems a bit low to me Breeny.
That fancy registration must add a good few bhp

hehe na i was just joking, dunno what the 18's would do to the bhp figure to be honest. I'll get it on the rollers at some point.
