I have a nova Mk2 GSI J Reg.

It has c20XE (2l 16V) fitted and the gear linkage is very tight and jumps out of reverse.

Is there a cure for this?? Is it bad fitting??

What do i do to sort??

I have also asked on a different thread which gearbox i have as i am also unsure of this and how to tell.

Can you tell by top speeds in each gear or is there any clues on the box.

Have you checked it for fluid? I would say that with it being a little stiff due to fluid shortage that you could have been forcing it into gear and so possibly slipped the linkage a bit.

Have you a Haynes Manual? If not, get one. Theres a bolt on the side of the gear box to check the fluid level and it'll also show you how to reset the linkages on the box. I could try and explain but its well documented with Pictures as well in the Haynes Manual.

what linkage are you using?
have you modified it?

Yep, have a look here (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=86668)

you can keep the nova gear linkage but flip the plastic universal joint around to give the nova linkage a longer reach.

I think I have a pic of the bit you need to flip, give me a mo and I'll dig it out...

Here we go. Not a brilliant pic, but you can just about make out the plastic joint in the middle - its been flipped round to make the reach that little bit longer:

We had to file a little bit off the end to get it to flip round correctly
