Hi,

I have done a c20xe conversion into a Holden Camira - everything is done except for the tacho. I am using a cheap ebay 5" tacho at the moment, and the engine is a Calibra - distributor version.

I have tried:

Green wire from green plug (number 4 on the XE wiring info thread picture)
Every plain green wire coming out of the ECU
The wire connected into Pin 43 on the ECU (which was green/brown)
Wire direct to negative terminal on Coil (This works, but is showing way too many revs, and it is all over the place)

In the end, I went nuts and connected the tacho signal to every wire on the 3 connectors near the ECU. A brown/black wire on the black connector (Number 4 on the wiring picture) DID register on the tacho, and went up when I revved it, but it was registering way too low (as in, ~4k rpm was showing 1200rpm). This wire had ~8v on it.

Any ideas? Any way to get either the negative coil wire, or the brown/black to work properly? Thanks :)

does the gauge actually work? and surely it would have come with destructions. also, does the gauge have a swtich on the back for 4/6/8 clyinders? and have you changed it?

apologies for not being any more help, but it is 8.40 in the morning!

Yes, the gauge works. When connected to the coil, it goes up with the revs, but WAY too high and 'noisy' when it gets to 5k RPM. It is set to 4 cylinder.

After doing some research, it looks like I might be able to use that brown/black wire with some messing around.. I'll give it a whirl.

Was just wondering what one of these looks like

Looks a bit like a mk2 cav.

Also looks like they use the 20ne/ 20seh as well

I connected mine to the blue connector on the coil, the one on the left as you look at the coil in this pic:

Worked fine then, although that was to a GM dial set.

Ok, thanks. The problem must be the tacho isn't receiving the right 'pulse' that it is expecting. I am sure I can sort it out.

Yeah, the Camira's are J-body cars, and are identical to a US car, but with different lights. I am unsure if there are any UK cars that are the same.

Here's a couple of pics of one similar to mine (which is a Wagon). It won't be quite as fast as a Corsa, but with me in the car and half a tank of fuel, it weighs in at 1150kg after some weight reduction.

This model comes with a C20NE and close-ratio, strengthened F16 box as standard. I am still using the F16 box with it.
