right, before anyone takes offence this is aimed at those who race the classic cars in this, not the guys running mondeos and veccys. ive just watched a pre 75 banger race filmed in 2008, and i can safely say im sickened! there was cars on it that id kill for, austin 1800's, granada mk1's, cortina mk1 and 2 and loads of big jags. now i know that alot of them are rotten but some were mint. sorry but i needed to vent my anger, and this eas the best place. there was a few vauxhalls too, a ventora and a viva and a few others. im now well gutted. i know that a few guys on here do it, the big man is one, its not aimed at you guys, you kill mondeos and escys. fords like that (post 1990) deseve it. classic cars dont. right rant over comments pls. and mods / admin if this is in the wrong section plese move it, ta sloth:thumb:

my dad has regrets about all the cortinas he raced. he reckons he personally is responsible for well over a hundred cortinas being wrecked!!! that was back when he was racing years ago though, 9 out of 10 cars on the track were cortinas. he wouldnt dream of wrecking one now though, he would rather restore it!

aye. i thought seen as times moved on, that they were using more modern stuff, but its still old stuff. a mate told me the one near him runs an 80's night with xr's gte's gti's and stuff. many a nova has been there apparently, not 1.2's but gtes etc. its wrong.

although if im honest i raced my old 1.2 nova had already had a front ender though and was unrepairable so i thought i may as well make the most of it before scrapping it. obviously totally stripped it first! thats the other thing that annoys me, people banger racing on alloy wheels when it just makes so much more sense to take them off and race on steelies. guy raced a mondeo last week on 18s with powerflow system :tard:

Some may be insurance write offs (considering their age, this is quite likely), some may have attempted to sell the cars - this leads me to another rant, which I'll get onto in a moment - some may just have had a small budget and bought the first cheap car they found, and some may be structurally unsafe due to chassis damage or corrosion. Just because a car looks mint doesn't mean it is. Plus, most people on here describe rusty novas as "mint" so that word means diddly squat lol

Everyone wimbles at cars being treated like that, but maybe they couldn't sell them? I've seen tidy cars on here get scrapped and people whinge, yet when the car had been for sale for xyz months, nobody came up with the cash. Look at the struggle Lauren had to sell her car, yet when she talked of scrapping it, people were up in arms about it. And in the case of banger racing, Ok they could give the car away to an enthusiast, but why should they when they can have some fun for free then weight the car in for scrap and make a little bit of cash back?

Of course some may just be doing it to get a rise out of people - such as this thread lol

I dont want to cause any troubles etc but i wanted to say that nearly all cars that been raced was rotten as pear, Ive built some really rotten one like a hearse with no floor and we had to make some!

Ive got a nice 77 bmw, quite nice but a bit rusty underneath and the old owner offered it everywhere, not a single taker and Ive tried clubs etc and not a part went so banger racing its going to!

I raced a mk1 astra, looked clean 1 lady owner from new. If i didnt race it, would of been scrapped and at the time i had no interest in trying to sell it on.

Then if a cars too rotton i wouldnt wanna be in it when a cavalier/ vectra/ mondeo followed me into a barrier! Ive seen cars shorten to less than half their origional length!

My mate raced a mk1 cavalier, bent the front end. We pulled it all out so he could go for another race only to realised another crash and his legs would of prabably dissapeared through the floor.

Most people that do it dont see a classic car, they see a metal thing with 4 wheels and an engine they can have fun in!

I don't think that is the reason Austin 1800's are dead, they were a rotten heap of sh*te!!!!lol

And yes I know they were a great idea, it was just a pitl about the way BL built them!!

I've a few Austin 1300's here, not just as bad, but close!!lol

I dont race (so im not biased) but if cars didnt disappear (rot, accidents, banger racing) then they wouldnt end up classics. Cant see mk1 escorts fetching 7 grand if they were as common as mk1 mondeos....

My dad used to work in a scrappy and basically any expensive classic you can name he has cut up! But if everyone saved every car that they had their hands on.......

Well said:thumb:

Me and my dad are into classic bikes, they are rare because of scrapping rotting racing etc..

If there comon theyre worth F.A, the more that are mangled the more the true origionals are worth:wtf:

If you want to save one, buy one, but most of the cars out there are worth nothing, as said in previous posts.
