general, the problem you have is that most of the woodland that surrounds atherstone is owned by merevale estate....... they probably won't allow much shooting because they run the shoots themselves.

the yellow pages all have a listing for farmers, but if you are after some rabbit shooting etc, the best bet is to go to where farmers are at, ie, the new years day hunt meet at the market place in atherstone (11 am, I'll be there) and ask about..
or stick a small ad on the board in the country store at the redgate. i'll ask my nephew if he knows of anything cos he goes lamping & shooting.

Any "proper farmer" will more than likely not want to sell wooded land, because the government will be giving them a nice subsidy to grow trees on it!!!lol

Yup, over here you can claim whats known as the "Reps" which is where the Government pays you to keep yout land in good order, well fenced and free of Dumping.

Thay also pay you for Wildlife Protection and grants are available for planting Forests at the moment. In Certain parts od Donegal you can get between €20-€25,000 a year per 100 acres. Hense why I want to buy 118 Acres advertised locally.

not in a lowland area with proper ancient woodland..........

round our part of the planet, most farmers have a pheasant shoot sorted out in their woodland.
