Any alarm fitters on here from leicestershire? Or willing to travel?

Need a Toad 6016 (not sure on model) fitted asap :) , plus old one ripping out etc.

Can get it fitted for £200 all in at mo, if you can do it for less fantastic.

Immobilisers are dead easy on a Nova. You've only got four wires in the ignition

imobiliser chop the starter motor feed black/red i think if its a carb and if injection id go for the fuel pump relay as unburnt fuel will wreck the cat.

most good alarms have 2 imobilisers so who knows how to do all four.

Also if you get joe bloggs to fit it you will have to pay an extra £30 ish to get the installation checked and signed off to be worthwhile for any insurance premium reduction. So in reality for your £100 alarm your'e only paying £70 to get it fitted (with warranty etc).
If you lived close i'd do it for £50 so I'm sure you could find someone to do it for your quoted £150 but will they do a decent job?

Just an observation, but I'd go to the pro's.

Well said, I was, on a different note, about to buy your car but decided on a cheaper one with money left over.. How wrong was I lol.

You don't need to immobilise the hazard switch via the alarm, you can fit a one way diode (IIRC) in the wiring to stop the upside-down trick.

Which wire and how does that work?

Do you have a manual with a wiring diagram?

What did you get in the end - is there a link.

It's sad to see my old nova go and it was in A1 condition, not to mention it was very different in terms of technology to any other nova's i'd seen.

If you need any wiring doing then I'd be interested, don't know how far you are (I'm between scarborough and bridlington).

Your car was very nice, just didnt want to spend 3k on a nova at the time in an attempt to save money haha.

I bought this btw:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&it em=290273725737

£1370.

Really, I need the engine re-wiring as its a mess, visually mainly.

But a new alarm is a must at the mo due to a dead Cobra.

If your offering to fit the alarm, i can travel :) .

Well its a totally different look to my old car, each to their own I suppose but I prefer a more standard look. Sold mine for £3,400 in the end so I suppose it's nearly a third of the price, you don't mind a few problems for that price and gives you some change to fix any niggles found on the car. Will PM you regarding the work you require.

whats the proper model of the alarm?

is it a AI606?

black fob with four buttons?

has your car got electric windows if so? yo can use the fobs to open windows and close them if you leave it open by mistake

Yes, I will be useing the Toad Ai606 but doesnt that cost more to have the feature where you can wind the windows up with the fob? It does have electric windows.

I think the fobs are a dark green colour with black buttons.

The Ai606 is capable of allsorts as standard, what is required as extra is the relays for the electric windows. Qty required depend how you go about it. I also used an extra relay to make the headlights come on.

So will that make my headlights stay on for a certain time after the alarm is armed? Or operate with the fob?

I would like that windows operated with the fob, I did have that on my last nova and it was very good indeed.

yes from memory the output signals can be set to different things and the relays do the work.

so what relays do I need to get hold of?

Look on the toad website and they have their own kit for opening windows and turning your headlight on.

do I need their kit or would a normal relay do the trick?

philly

any normal realy is ideal for the job to be perfectly honest as long as it will hold the correct amount of current, I.E a decent enough ampage rating.

The electric windows is the most complicated to do. You need to find a permanent feed of 30A? to start with as the normal window circuit is not powered with the ignition off. Then through 4 poles of a mixture of 1, 2 or 4 relays (depending on how many poles you can find on a relay) turns each motor on. I suppose you can just tap the new wiring into the loom without making modifications to the original loom but if you were for example closing the windows from the fob at the same time as pressing down on the window switches with the ignition on you would blow the fuses and possibly the relays and switches. Not a very likely scenario but if it is of concern you can go a bit further by using another relay to cut power to the normal circuit, or indeed feed the normal circuit through the normally closed contacts of your fitted relays. A lot of it depends on what type of relays you can get hold of. I should really draw a circuit - but I can't be bothered.

power windows is not essential with the alarm just put them up before you put the ignition off. id go for headlights on and remote engine start.

Firstly I would like to say a BIG thanks for all your input. I have now gone for the Toad C5 which is very similar to the 606 but isnt discontinued. The wiring was examined, I was told that it was a rather large fire risk  .

So why the car was being sorted they fitted the alarm.

1 hour to fix wiring @ £20 (Sprecial rate)
1 Toad C5 fitted @ £269.99
Fitted at ICE Direct in Peterborough if anyone knows it.

Bit annoyed that the C5 only has 2 button remotes, dont know if that limits me at all. Seems good enough though.

SORTED.... For another week
