i got a feew parts today, tank with the pump and fuel lines, F13CR gearbox ,and a lighter fly wheel of a 8v engine.the ecu light is on in the vectra i think it could be the map sensor.i tried flashing the code and i got 10 flashes the it paused then flashed 5 more times. i cant get the code to match anything.

jonn

im not doing much these days just trying to get the engine running. the engine is running to rich and is not runnig or idleing wright http://blitzandgriffin.11.forumer.com/images/smiles/icon_sad.gif i got a dinostic test done and i had to change the crank sensor/idle contol moto/manifold pressure sensor/coolant temperature sensor/ all of the sensors were second hand but the engine is still running poor it wont idle ok and it puts black smoke out at high revs and the spark plugs are sooth black. i also bought another engine for spare parts. i tried to flash the codes and got a throttle body malufuntion so i took off the throttle body and cleaned it all out and changed the idle control motor. does anyone know what to do next? here is a pic of the spare engine

not much of an update beacuse i am still waiting for the engine to get fixed i am brining it over to another mechanic to have a look at it. if the engine was running the day i bought it i would probly have the engine in and running. here is a pic of the exhaust system i am using it was a standard 1.2l exhaust that was a bit modified. the back box is off a yamaha raptor/quad bike......it should sound good :d

a bit of a update...i have the engine out flywheel on and new clutch kit i should have the engine in sunday but it will take about 2 or 3 weeks to wire the engine http://209.85.48.10/html/emoticons/sad.gif. i have the fuel pump changed to the mpi pump. i will fit the petro tank back in with the new high pressure fuel lines on friday or saturday. so all i have to do to get it running is fit the engine+box in connect drive shafts. wire engine+kill switch fit petrol tank+fuel lines and it should be finished http://209.85.48.10/12813/51/emo/14.gif http://209.85.48.10/12813/51/emo/banana.gifdo i need to make a adjuster for the atanator belt? i am using the vectra altanator with the wide flat pulley. does the engine loom disconect straight from the ecu?

i got the engine all wired up 2day but i cant get the fuel pump to work i have the live side of the pump going through the 20A fuse and connected to the right wire on the loom and the - to the earth on the body of the car. do i have to wire in a relay switch or something?

jonn

at last i got the car running today http://www.blitzandgriffin.net/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif. i spent the last month trying to find out why it wouldnt start. i thought the timing was out or the ecu was burnt out but all that was wrong was the wire going to the crankshaft sensor was caught in the altanator bracket and it the wires were damaged so i changed the sensor now it runs ok. here is a vid of it:

i got the rear brakes sorted out and i found out that the right rear brake cylinder was siezed so i striped it down and fixed it, the cam cover gasket was leaking so i replaced that and the bracket on drivers side headlamp was broke so i took out the headlamp and fited a bit of mesh

i went to a autocross today and when i finished the practice lap i parked up the car and had a look under the bonnet, the engine bay was covered in engine oil, it even got on to the windscreen, the oil was coming from a breather pipe and their was a slight tapping noise coming from the head so i think i broke a piston ring. i will try and do a compression test next week :(

right i went to my local scrap yard today to look for an engine. they have a vectra with a engine with 140,000 on the clock and the timing belt was done 20,000 mles ago. i think i am going to go ahead and buy it. i would love to rebuild my own engine but i just dont have the time or money to put into it. this is my 3rd engine to put into the nova so mabey its 3rd time lucky

i was at a autocross last sunday and finished 3rd in my class.

the only thing that went wrong with the car was the stupid bonnet pins managed to open and the bonnet flew up but luckily it did not touch the wind screen. i managed to bait the bonnet back into shape and put the bonnet pins back in and about 4 cable ties so the pins wouldnt open again.

The nova went well over the weekend, nothing broke or fell off it anyway. the sump guard got some abuse it bent up a small bit and it was hitting off the bottom of the gearbox.

on saturday i finished 1st out of 5 cars in my class and sunday i finished 2nd out of 3 cars in my class so happy out, i got a in car video but its not great quality though.

i know i am loosing time on the tight corners because i have to ease off the power to get around them, if i dont the car wont turn in and it will stay going straight but i hope a limited slip diff will improve this.

i also changed the wheels, my next autocross is in 2 weeks.

strut brace looks good mate :) what exactly is autocross then? I thought it was like autograss but from your videos it appears not lol

jonn
08-07-11, 10:11 PM
its kind of like autograss except only 2 or 3 cars are on the track at a time and the car with the fastest time wins

this explains it better

There are two types of Autocross events; those held on a grass surface and those that take place on a loose surface; e.g. dirt tracks or quarries.
In either case, a circuit is laid out and cars compete individually "against the clock". If the circuit is long enough cars may be started at intervals so that more than one car is on the track at any one time. However, as the event is "against the clock", no passing is allowed. A competitor will usually get four to six attempts to set his or her best time and the result is decided: by the total time taken in loose surface events, or by the best time for any one run for grass surface events.

autocross didn't go to well yesterday i made sh!te of 2 wheels and bursted 2 tyres and cracked part of the front chasis, i think the strutbrace was to good lol

need to get 2 new tyres, get 4 steel rims and plate the chasis and weld back together. if i have enough money i will need to get lower poundage springs for the front aswell, if i find any pictures i will add them.

the carlow autocross went well yesterday, the only problem was the gear linkage is now completly f***ed so i hope to get it rose jointed. it kept falling out of second gear. i still need to fit the widest ratio box i can get. for my second run i got a time of 2:48 staying in 3rd gear and for my 3rd run i got a time of 2:43 staying in 2nd gear and bouncing off the rev limiter most of the time
if i find any pictures i will post them up

my plans for the nova so far is to fit new front wheel bearings, pads, rose joint gear linkage, wider ratio gearbox, would love to get a diff for the box but dont think i will have the money because of the other nova.
