View Full Version : Nova Door removal
Ok, I've got a nice 7mm Stanley Punch but it cant get it angles correctly to knock the door pins out. Intil now it wasnt an issue as any door removal was with a Grinder or a Sledge Hammer but now its time to start refitting them and this is where I need to be doing it properly. Any hints or tips? Have I got the Right Punch or do I need an angled one?
ive always found the easiest way is to just whip the wing off
i bent a bonnet stay and it worked a treat on mine lol
Ok, I'll get started then so!

The guy at the scrappy who took the door off for me opened it as far as it could go then knocked the pins out
Didn't need to remove the wing or anything...

^ exactly for the sake of £10 for the propper pin tool you can remove the door without damaging it. (plus you have it forever)
Dod, have you ever seen the proper tool? have a look and you may well be able to knock something up with some small (M5 ish) screwed rod, and a few washeres and a bit of bar with a clearence hole in it to hammer and pull the pins up.
or you can just drive the top pin up and the bottom pin down until it pops a hole in the door. and let the pin fall right through. depends how good a job you want to do.

ye thats what im on about.
I've never seen one of those before but **** me, its gonne be put on order!! Cheers lads.
I used to use a pair of Vice grips and a hammer but it never worked too well. The Most ignorant one was a Sledge to remove an old door but it resulted in the door frame hinges being bent out of shape, which was nice.

well i grind the corners off so it is easy to get at but ordering one of them will come in handy at work aswell as a panel beater
even with the proper tool it can still be a ****. i still say its easier to spend 10 mins taking the wings off as then you can take the pins out with the door closed. then just lift the door off. instead of doing a balencing act

Sorry but i dont agree at all, i work as a car dismantler and on vaux doors with a hollow pin i just use draper door pin removal kit, cost the great sum of about a tenner and it's a piece of p**s to take them off this way, no need what so ever to take the wing off ! just wind the window down and support the door on your shoulder whilst you tap them out, always take the bottom one out first obviously else you make it a nightmare and also obviously need to undo the check strap and wiring first.
just put a garage jack under the corner of the door, so it doesnt hang down while removing the 2nd pin.

Going to be replacing my doors soon and I think thats the method me and my dads for using :)

Placing a jack under the door ????? are you crazy lol ??? that'll scratch the bottom of the door plus its just unnecessary ! Nova doors are light as a feather, just use your shoulder to support it, easy.
an old screw driver with about 9 inches of bonnet stay welded to it
gets way above the panels
