how do u fit a cam shaft

unfortunately my camshaft is knackered n there is all these instuctions on how 2 fit a new 1 bt nt on a nova does that mater or is it a completely diferent procedure on diferent cars? :confused: thanks

It depends largely on the engine. Set the engine to TDC. On a vauxhall twincam setup you need to remove the pulley and rocker cover then the caps that hold the cam down. On an 8v you need to remove the pulley, rocker cover, distributer or dispack unit then behind where the dizzy/dispack was there's a retaining plate that holds the cam in position, unbolt this. You then need to use the rocker tool to hold each one down in turn as you retract the cam towards the passenger side, so that everything stays in place. Refitting is the same but in reverse.

First of all, how do you know your camshaft is knackered?? Seems a strange part to suddenly be knackered without any other engine probs.

and what engine is it some poeple might be able to help ya. as i think its pretty easy on a 1.2 from past experiance.

you can do it in about 1/2 hour, if you fit a new head gasket and head bolts,

but before you spend any money, can you describe to use what happened?

it has a habbit of just conking out no matter how fast am going and has just started knocking well tapping then my temperature gauge just shot up never been so high before so i took it to be looked at and he said my cam shaft is knackered.

sounds like head gasket/bottom end more than cam.

if the cam was fuggered then it wouldnt run at all

87 e reg no mods jus exhaust and lowered and god knows not had it that long. he also said the car won't make it very far but have been driving it all day and no problems just the tapping at bottom end ok when you put your foot down abit

:roll: thats not really good advice, if my engine broke, id want to find out what it was first, before just jumping in to replace it, the 'new' engine might be the same, could be electrical :roll:

see sr-ish he'll help ya. its simple baxter, ya 1.2 dies ya get a new one, but hear it running. that way you know its ok. i binned 3 good 1.2 carbs in august. 23k, 35k, an61k iirc on em. no one wanted em

it is still running just the konking out business which to be honest hasn't been so bad recently and it does just start again straight away
