Oh lordy, the wiring is going to be a complete nightmare I would imagine!

Get some stand alone management for it (if there is a loom availiablle for that engine). If not, you're going to need a wiring diagram and a lot of patience.

I hope to hell you pull it off though :)

james_19
21-12-08, 10:33 PM
there is something wrong with the connection to the ignition, this is guna be mint when its finished, my mate works at an audi a8 specialist but just havin a few problems.
the full car is basically an a8.
we reckon it will do 0-60 in less than 5 second quite comfy

james_19
21-12-08, 10:34 PM
if we cant then its guna go in a corsa or something slightly bigger still vauxhall thou :P

sounds like a mental thing to do, which means respect from me....

As noted above, wiring plus CPU will be the biggest problems. But anything is possible, so keep on it fella.

Pics would be nice.

whats the engine layout on the 3.7? v8? and how does the gearbox run?

looks fun I must say.

Will watch this one

burgo
21-12-08, 10:48 PM
the audi a8 with the 3.7 v8 only came in fwd. it was the 4.2 that was a quatro ;)

its a 3.7v8 triptronic, i said at the beginning of the thread wiring and gettin the car goin

cos we have havin problems with the running gear as its made for a front engine 4wd

Im struggling to see how putting it in a corsa is going to be easier than a Nova when the A8 itself is as big as the Titanic!

Are you trying to run the A8 running gear in the Nova then? Is all the running gear plumbed in or is it just an engine suspended in the back of a Nova at the moment???

james_19
21-12-08, 10:49 PM
the igntion wiring is the problem for the moment but we are getting another mate to sort out the running gear.

thats the thing my mate customized this engine to 4wd off an audi a8, he was guna use this engine in a audi a8 as a track car but decided it wud be more fun to put it in something smaller

21-12-08, 10:52 PM
I thought you'd done all the hard bit and were just needing to wire it up? It seems the ballache has only just begun! lol

Good luck my friend, but forgive the sceptical amongst us as stuff like this gets started and not finished all the time.

how is this not a project we have a 3.7 v8 in a nova and have encountered a few problems, thats it in a nut shell.

meritlover
21-12-08, 11:07 PM
i think i follow the 'just' of it

theres a 'specialist' who thought it would be easier to add 4x4 running gear to a smaller engined fwd car, and now he's taken all the stuff out and mounted the engine in the back of a Nova. they're 'not bothered' where the gearbox goes, but as soon as they can get it to start and drive the rear wheels, it will be finnished.

is that about right?

True, but you have to understand we do get a lot of "I've just fitted a V6/V8/Vtec/Merlin/triplesuperduperubercharged engine to my nova with the help of my dad/uncle/lotus team/wayne cherry/God yo" threads by dreamers who haven't done the work. Unfortunately, expect to get a lot of jip until you provide evidence of said engine in said car - hence people asking for pics.

Should be an interesting project if you do manage to sort it though

Mr Jack summerised the situation perfectly. im not being a bad man, i love the Nova. im just tired of dreamers hacking up a perfectly good shell with no plan or knowledge of how to make it happen. then it ends up on the for sale section as '99% finnished project, no time to finnish it, but itl only take about 2 hours for the new owner to do it. just wiring the permanent live and a coolant hose and it'll be done. was a mint 23k mile shell before we started so its a bargin. may break/sell separately...offers'

Poor old C7LJN came on here and said he was going to graft a cossy floorpan into a Nova shell, and make it run cossy 4x4 with a YB lump. Oh how we all laughed, until he showed us pics of him actually doing it, and made us all eat our hats.

The thing is, no one is going to take you seriously unless you show us pics of some progress. We've been bread to be cynical im afraid. No one is going to give you praise for an idea unless its prooved.

This is much like what I wrote on C7LJN's thread, and I ended it by saying 'prove us wrong' and he did! Question is, can you?
