ive had this prob forever and have never managed to sort it , lol

20xe , wont idle atall from cold , wont start without quite abit of throttle and have to let it get warm before i can let it run with no throttle ,

tryed new coolent temp sensor , tried numerous air flow meters , and a few diff ecu's

just wanted to know what ecu should i have , it has an FP at the min but rexy has a GL for his 20xe , but this makes no difference to mine neither ?

I beleive that GL is 20xe code?

Is it no lambda Carl?

mine did exactly the same, tried various ECUs with different codes with no difference. Turned out to be the ICV. Fitted a new one and it was fine!

Have to flashed up the trouble codes? or is there no light?

yeah non lambda , no fault codes and have tried 3 icv's aswell

did you reset the icv's before putting them in?

how is this done?

iirc your icv is only operational below 2000rpm.

hmmm hang on what type of icv's do xe's have?

bosch.

also just to add that when its all warmed up and does idle on its own then the idle speed is really low , 500 indicated on std rev counter

hmm xes have a different type to what i was thinking. it does sound like thats whats not working the riggy. you tried adjusting the throttle stop to see if that helps

no not yet burgo , have seen some xe's with a clamp round accl cable , but surley idle should be ecu controlled

Tried tps?

it should but until you find out why its not adjusting the throttle stop should help.

no not tried tps paul , not got a spare one , would that only affect idle though is it drives fine ?

Proper 3 wire valves. Not motors like c14se's etc etc.

Cant see it being the throttle stop tbh, if the engine speed is low the ecu should "see" it and open the icv to compensate until its happy with the speed. Unless someones adjusted the throttle stop previously.

IIRC my non lambda gte loom had a "GQ" ecu.

lol should i mention the engine used to be baxters haha

test the idle control by letting it idle, engage 2nd gear and try pulling away very gradually with the handbrake on with no throttle the ICV should try and hold the rpm. when you hear the engine loading and trying hard, dump the clutch and the revs should spring up momentarilly as the ICV should be open and will take a second to react.

if this happens then it ICV is working,

If the TPS is a switch as apposed to a pot then if this was out of adjustment it may well contribute to a poor idle/start.

the pot part of a TPS is used for transient load sensing such as accelleration enrichment, or decelleration enleanment.

On the early xe the TPS is just a switch.

well thought id try mr lovers test , and it does not do anything on the nova , just returns back to its idle speed , tryed it on astra aswell and i got a bit of over rev to compensate , so looks like my icv could be goosed , but i adjusted the throttle cable with the help of a jubilee clip and and will idle fine now , bodge fix i know but engine comes out next week lol
