Might sound a bit thick here  but just want to be sure !
I have bought a 1.4sr engine and box, to put in my 1.0 !
While the engine is out of the car i might as well do all the mods now.
Was wondering when you say get a 1.2 head, which bit is the actual head ?
and what is involved in porting and polishing !?!?
Cheers :D

the head is the part the spark plugs go into and the exhast and inlet manifolds bolt onto
as for porting and polishing u may want to get a specialised head porting kit as it will have all the tools required
also dont polish the inlet tract as this fucks up the fuel air mix and casues the fuel to drop out of suspension
what i would suggest is simply matching the ports up to the manifolds as close as u can
replace the valve stem seals while your in there and possibly get the valve seats reground and valves wasited
i'd not reccomend doing a lot of the work yourself unless u know alot about it because u can end up making things worse
remember you'll also need the inlet manifold from a 1.3 engine (1.3L, 1.3SR, Astra 1.3) because the ports are different

cheers mate thanks for the info, just a couple of quick questrions !
even though im using a 1.2 head do i still need to get the 1.3 inlet manifold ??
and what do you mean by match the ports to the manifold ??
Cheers mate :D
the 1.2 and 1.3 have the same port shape on the head. the 1.2 is only a single choke carb, but the 1.3 sr has twin choke like the 1.4 sr. so to use a twin choke, you'll need a 1.3sr manifold.
matching: when the manifold and head are joined, there is normally a lip that disturbs the airflow. when u match them, u remove this lip and make sure the ports not oly line up, but are the exact shape and size.

Cheers mate, does anyone have much experience with twin 40s ?
Need to know what extras to get hold of e.g. i hear talk of an alternator bracket ? and as there goin on a 1.3 manifold is there anything needed ??!
Cheers guys :D
Twin 40's hey. I may know a little.
You'll need the bracket, linkage, manifold, gasket, o-rings, washers, jets and chokes. Filters maybe.

Is this the alternator bracket ? Where would i get this from ?
Also if i was to buy twin 40s brand new from weber would i not get the stuff you've mentioned with them ? if not where do i look !?
I am goin to get hold of a 1.3sr manifold and head this weekend !
Cheers :D
You can either make the alternater bracket or buy one, i think Demon Tweeks still sell them.
The 40's are about ?240 EACH (you need 2!), the manifold is another ?120, plus gaskets and a fuel pressure regulater = about another ?50
Plus a RR set-up ?50-?150
= ???
Cheaper option is to try and buy a complete set up secondhand, but this is still expensive.
Twin 40's wont fit on an SR manifold!
The cheaper option is to get a weber 32/34Dtml carb to fit the SR manifold, this will cost you ?200 new and will give a big improvement over the SR Pierberg one.
Hope that helps mate
Ben :)

Im sure in the 14 sticky thread someone said they had some twin 40s with 1.3 inlet manifold ???
if twin 40s wont go on a 1.3 manifold i think i might just go for the 32/34 cvarb ?!?
If you buy 40's you have to get a manifold designed to fit 40's. You can get them for any 8v vaux lump.
