if i make a video of how the car is running would you be able to tell whats wrong with it i think it is miss firing as the exhaust is puffing away in a very strange manner

i put a screw driver in the ht lead and they are all getting power ( good strong spark) i cant bloody check the plugs right now as i have lost my spark plug spanner

also its got a new air filter oil oil filter and so on so i dont think it just needs a good service

Ok, if its getting decent feed for the Spark, then I cant be that unless its the timing.

When you say the exhaust is puffing irregluarly, how do you mean? Is it firing on 2 or 3 cylanders?

turbojolt
20-12-08, 12:42 PM
its hard for me to explain it but it like puff -miss-puff-miss i know that sounds stupid but i cant explain it any other way lol

turbojolt
20-12-08, 12:53 PM

turbojolt
20-12-08, 01:38 PM
right after sending good knows how many volts thru my body lol i found all the plugs to be in good working order making a very healthy spark and being new so i dont really want to go out and buy new ignition components

could it just be the timing

looking at the spark plus and a old escort Haynes manuel i have carbon fouling occurring as my spark plugs are sooty and black

turbojolt
20-12-08, 02:22 PM
is the mixture adjusting screw the white one on the left hand side of the carb

turbojolt
20-12-08, 04:01 PM

Have you moved the dizzy? Something is more likely to have warn out than 'slipped' which is why baxters idea might be best.
Also, you may be getting spark, but it might not be strong enough - even though it's still enough to give you a jolt.

Edit: what did the plugs look like? Compare them to a guide in a haynes manual, or google some images.

the plugs looked like this click (http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads10/IMG_64201183814709.jpg)

also i removed the dizzy and cleaned it up

dont go adjusting carb screws until you know everything else is ok. is the choke working properly? ie not jamming. and is the float jammed (flooding the engine) both of these things will cause carbon deposits and black plugs.

sounds like either the leads are on the wrong way (firing order) or the timing is out.
if you had a strobe light you could both check the timing AND test each plug to make sure its flashing when it should fire.

without hearing it its difficult

turbojolt
20-12-08, 09:41 PM
i dont think the leads are on the wrong way as it was running spot on before

how do i check if the float chamber is jammed

Stuart
20-12-08, 09:42 PM
have you got a nova haynes manual? if not, then GET ONE

turbojolt
20-12-08, 09:44 PM
i haven't as my local halfrauds did not have any in stock

so going and buying one is of no use to me now as i will not be able to get one till next week and i really need this sorted as soon as possible

Ok, its a long shot, but have you tried gently massaging the head and cam carrier with some Strawberry scented Lubracant?

meritlover
20-12-08, 09:52 PM
so what exactly do you need to know?

Stuart
20-12-08, 10:01 PM
floats on the 1.2 engines dont tend to jam.

Its either piss poor ign timing, iffy mixture settings or an air leak given that you claim everything else is sorted.
Is the air filter clean?

meritlover
20-12-08, 10:02 PM
you really need to remove the top of the carb. check there is no cr8p in the bowl and that the needle is seating.

or you can remove the carb and drain it. then blow through the fuel inlet and block the return line with your finger. you should be able to blow in it easily until you turn it upside down at which point the float should fall and close the needle blocking the air flow.

i think you need to start with the basics first, such as timing and ignition before you play around too much. or you will end up chasing your tail.

turbojolt
20-12-08, 10:06 PM
right the airfilter is less then 100 miles old
