Problem with the computer, its strange as the screen is enlarged, looks like im zoomed in 150% on the screen, then once every few days i get no images and my monitor is saying no signal, i restore to factory conditions and its fine again for another couple of days but the screen is always showing big icons.

Even the shortcuts on the desktop appear huge, the mouse cursor etc etc...

Am i right in thinking the graphics card is shagged?

check the resolution of the pc. right click desktop the properties and find the res, 800*600 is normal

your might be out for some reason. and the other issues might be the graphics , could be your screen

doubt it will be the screen, could be something as simple as a driver issue, reinstall your display drivers, if you have lost the cd you will be able to get them free online

does your computer run slow when it happens? will applications not load up?

when you go into display properties, does it say you are already on the highest resolution possible? (which is actually alot lower than the resolution it normally is!)

display properties shows as fit to monitor (using 21" acer monitor) but have reselected 800x600 but still the same.

Is it an LCD or CRT screen? Try a 1280x1024 resolution and see if everything gets smaller.

if its a 21" then 1024x768 or 1280x1024, if it is every few days, check and clean the VGA port on your tower, also clean the plug on screen,

if it persists, then reinstall up to date drivers, if it then continues, will be a new card dude,

Actually it could be the card, the monitor, the driver for either or the scaling settings ;).

At 21" it could have a native resolution of 1680x1050 :).
