ive sold the engine that was in the car, and put one of the xe engine i already had, this engine was fine when i removed it from my old nova, now it is rattling crazy, its been sat for about 2 years so expected some rattles for a few minutes. kept it ruining well over an hour done a motorway run still rattles ive ordered hydraulic lifters anyway (coming Friday) but has any one had this problem
never had this problem with my other 4 engines

also it sounds like its misfiring slightly could this be due to the lifters have installed new rotor, cap, leads, plugs

could the head have gone porous with standing so long?

maybe all the oil drained of the components with sitting long and without the camshaft run in sequence may have put excessive wear on the engine.

Re check your oil level. Might be low after oil change.

Rag the nutts off it & give it another oil change.

Oil pick up pipe could be blocked/snapped.Look to see if the oil is getting up there,if not take sump off and oil pickup pipe off and have a gander

That causes headgasketesque symptoms (normally turns the header tank into a milkshake maker), and not noisy tappets.

If you've ordered new ones, that should fix it. I doubt its blocked oilways as you should have got an oil light, XE pressure sensors are reasonably sensitive, plus, after an hour of driving I would have expected an almighty bang as a camshaft snaps in half!

What oil you using?

Thinner oil will do it no favours in terms of tapping.

Give it some thicker oil.

Rag the nutts off it & give it another oil change.

This fixes most and is the best way to do it. As long as you're getting good oil pressure so check that.

That's why I said it. I've used that technique & it worked on mine.

New oil (cheap 10w40) give it some beans & then replace the oil again in 3 or 4 months.

trenchi lifters are a cheap copy... the even look different than OEM...

a guy here on the dutch opel forum orders a set, placed them, and after 2 weeks the still hadnt had a silent day. so cleaned the old ones (OEM), placed them back, 5 ticks and silent. and still running great.
