View Full Version : 1989 Nova Merit - back shelf speakers ...
Have got the 6x9's into the back shelf. Car has 4 working speakers - 2 front and 2 back .... Which way is best to wire in new speakers ...... with cables down the car and into stereo or wire up to the existing rear speakers ?

If you are not adding more speakers to what the car was originally wired with, no harm in using the existing wiring.
Adding 2 speakers in parcel shelf, 2 existing and origional in front and 2 existing and origional in back ... understood from the bloke in motor world one option was to wre up to the existing rear speakers and therefore have 6 ......

I'd ditch the standard rears then if you are running 6x9, you'll cook them in no time. Just wire up the 6x9's using the rear speaker wires and fade more to the rear.
Are you fitting additional ones up front too?
Not yet .... maybe later .... lack of space issues - immaculate inside - don't want to wreck it !

If I were you, upgrade the speakers in the dash and go with 6x9's on the rear shelf, all wired up using original wiring.
Less is more and quality is better than quantity.
I upgraded my fronts and I'm very happy. (http://www.pngclub.com/forum/showpost.php?p=814196&postcount=297)
Thanks for that ... will look into upgrading the dash ones ....
