Right my first question is the old metal plates with black with silver numbers ,
isit illegal to drive with these plate's anymore ?
and is the nova old enough to legalli have one ?

It is illegal unless the car was made and registered before about 1973.

Its always been illegal for silver on black (for post-'73 cars), well for a long while anyway.

You can get metal ones made up which do comply to legal requirements though.
