Is it any difference between the two tanks. Can remember who's thread it was but they said they used and cut up a 4dr tank for a side exit exhaust. Are they a difference shape

i would think they were as the 2 door filler neck is in front of the back wheel whereas the 4 door is behind it.

I believe 2/3 and 4/5dr tanks are different shapes, yes.

i.e. a 5dr hatchback tank will fit a 4dr saloon, but not on a 2dr saloon or a 3dr hatch.

Im pretty sure all the tanks were the same, isn't it just the filler necks that were the diffrence? The floors are the same so surely that would mean the tanks are as well??

no the tanks are different , the hole that the filler goes into on 3doors is at the side of the tank , where as on the more doors its in the top of the tank ,

hence walsh's moor door loo, when fitting a 16v into it he had to use a spi 5 door tank so that he could fit the mpi pump and that the filler would meet up :thumb:

Ah right so if im going to have the fuel cap moved into the drivers rear window, i guess its best to use a 5dr spi tank then
